Post-selection point and interval estimation of signal sizes in Gaussian samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We tackle the problem of the estimation of a vector of means from a single vector-valued observation $y$. Whereas previous work reduces the size of the estimates for the largest (absolute) sample elements via shrinkage (like James-Stein) or biases ...

Interval estimations in metrology

open access: yes, 2014
This paper investigates interval estimation for a measurand that is known to be positive. Both the Neyman and Bayesian procedures are considered and the difference between the two, not always perceived, is discussed in detail. A solution is proposed to a

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Confidence intervals for means of positively skewed distributions [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2003
The objective of this study is to compare interval estimation methods for population means of positively skewed distributions. The estimation methods are the interval estimation method with student-t statistics, the interval estimation method with ...

Simultaneous Confidence Interval Estimation

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1953
The work of Neyman on confidence limits and of Fisher on fiducial limits is well known. However, in most applications the interval or limits for only a single parameter or a single function of the parameters has been considered. Recently Scheffe [2] and Tukey [3] have considered special cases of what may be called problems of simultaneous estimation ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.
