The challenge of integrating Ibero-America through research and scientific publications

open access: yesREC: Interventional Cardiology (English Ed.), 2020
Undertaking the project REC: Interventional Cardiology, a bilingual journal published in English and Spanish and devoted to interventional cardiology seems a gigantic task to implement, which is why we wish to thank the editors for their entrepreneurial ...

Early postoperative interventional ASD-closure for severe atrial right to left shunt in a neonate with common arterial trunk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Although closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD II) with an occluding device in the first year of life is not a routine procedure, it is a feasible treatment, even in neonates.

The GRK2/AP‐1 Signaling Axis Mediates Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction and Atherosclerosis Induced by Oscillatory Low Shear Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights GRK2 is a central mediator in OSS‐induced endothelial dysfunction. OSS activates GPCRs in endothelial cells, leading to GRK2 phosphorylation and the activation of AP‐1. AP‐1 induces inflammation, while also promoting NR4A1 expression and anchoring LKB1 in the nucleus, which suppresses AMPK activity. This cascade causes endothelial

Arterial access site in the catheterisation lab : Is radial the way to go? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Aim: With radial access increasing in popularity in the United States and the United Kingdom, this literature review explores whether radial access in coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention is superior to femoral access, focusing on ...

View point on social media use in interventional cardiology

open access: yesOpen Heart, 2019
The dissemination of scientific developments has conventionally been through two main platforms: medical journals and scientific conferences. In 1665, the Royal Society released the first medical journal, Philosophical Transactions.

CCDC80 Protects against Aortic Dissection and Rupture by Maintaining the Contractile Smooth Muscle Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Aortic dissection (AD) is accompanied by a decrease in CCDC80 in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). CCDC80 can interact with JAK2, and VSMC‐specific CCDC80 deficiency accelerates the progression of AD by activating the JAK2/STAT3 pathway involved in regulating the phenotype switching and function of VSMCs.

Spectral Distribution Complexity of the Surface Fibrillatory Waves Predicts Post-Catheter Ablation Relapse in Persistent Atrial Fibrillation [PDF]

open access: yesComputing in Cardiology 2022; Vol 49
As for most of cardiac arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation (AF) is primarily treated by catheter ablation (CA). However, the mid-term recurrence rate of this procedure in persistent AF patients is still limited and the preoperative prediction of its outcome is clinically interesting to select candidates who could benefit the most from the intervention ...
