Animal Models of Disc Degeneration Using Puncture Injury: A 20 Year Perspective

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2025.
This review of surgically induced IVD puncture injury animal models presents an evolution over decades to include many variations simulating distinct clinical phenotypes of IVDD, and recommends reporting a common set of injury features to facilitate cross‐study comparison.

Effect of Vertebral Body Tether Tensioning on Vertebral Body Growth Modulation

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2025.
Intraoperative intervertebral tensioning significantly affects vertebral body growth over 2 years. Greater tension resulted in less vertebral body growth and greater differential growth. Further studies would benefit from better methods to quantify forces applied during surgery.

Relationship Between Quantitative MRI and Radiological, Histological, and Biochemical Measures of Intervertebral Disc Health in Client‐Owned, Nonchondrodystrophic‐Breed Dogs

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2025.
The purpose of this study was to assess the sensitivity of quantitative MRI techniques in detecting disc degeneration in client‐owned, nonchondrodystrophic‐breed dogs. Thoracolumbar vertebral columns from the donated bodies of 15 dogs without a history of IVDD were imaged ex vivo at 3T MRI, and quantitative MRI values of the discs were compared to ...
