THE INTERVERTEBRAL DISK

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1931
The past five years has seen a greater increase in knowledge of the pathologic changes of the spine than that of the half century preceding. This is due to Professor Schmorl of the Dresden Pathologic Institute, who, in his researches up to now, did not achieve his object of demonstrating the cause of scoliosis but who indicated the anatomy, physiology

Herniated Lumbar Intervertebral Disk

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1990
Low back pain is common, but a herniated intervertebral disk is the cause in only a small percentage of cases. Most symptomatic disk herniations result in clinical manifestations (pain, reflex loss, muscle weakness) that resolve with conservative therapy, and only 5% to 10% of patients require surgery.

Intervertebral Disk Calcification in Childhood

Radiology, 1967

Intervertebral disk infection in children

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1967
The clinical data of six children with intervertebral disk infection are compared with those of twenty cases reported by others. The intense pain caused by the disease creates problems in the examination of the child but the history and resultant pattern of limited movement should suggest the possibility of the clinical diagnosis.

Herniated thoracic intervertebral disks

Journal of Computed Tomography, 1985
The diagnosis of herniated thoracic disks has historically been confusing for the clinician and difficult for the radiologist. Its protean manifestations lead it to mimic many diseases including spinal cord tumors and degenerative diseases. Radiographically, its diagnosis has been difficult by both routine radiography and myelography.

CHONDROMA OF INTERVERTEBRAL DISK

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1930
It is doubtful whether chondroma of the intervertebral disk, as originally described by Stookey,1is as rare as a review of the literature would indicate. The first reference to this condition to be found in the literature is by Adson,2who briefly mentioned one case with involvement of the cervical region; but the first detailed study was published in ...

Calcification of the Intervertebral Disks in Childhood

Radiology, 1954
Calcification of the intervertebral disks generally has been considered a degenerative disease of adults. Schmorl (19), whose extensive studies on this subject are recognized as fundamental, believed disk calcification to be a degenerative process of no clinical significance.
