Raloxifene retards the progression of adjacent segmental intervertebral disc degeneration by inhibiting apoptosis of nucleus pulposus in ovariectomized rats

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2021
Background Adjacent segmental intervertebral disk degeneration (ASDD) is a major complication secondary to lumbar fusion. Although ASSD pathogenesis remains unclear, the primary cause of intervertebral disk degeneration (IVDD) development is apoptosis of

Kaempferol Alleviates Acrolein‐Induced Lung Injury In Vitro and In Vivo by Binding to Peli2 and Disrupting the Peli2‐NLRP3 Interaction

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Abstract Acrolein (ACR) is a highly toxic agent that induces lung inflammation and causes acute lung injury (ALI). However, effective treatments for ACR‐induced ALI are currently lacking. We investigated the protective effects of kaempferol (Kae) against ACR‐induced ALI using in vitro (HBE and BEAS‐2B cells) and in vivo murine models (male C57BL/6 mice)

A Phase 1 Study of the Pharmacokinetics, Safety, and Tolerability of Posdinemab (JNJ‐63733657) in Healthy Chinese Adults

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Posdinemab, a humanized immunoglobulin G1/κ monoclonal antibody, binds with high affinity to phosphorylated tau protein which is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathophysiology. Posdinemab reduced tau seeding in murine models and was well tolerated in Phase‐1 clinical studies.

Characterizing Microstructural and Mechanical Properties of Dancer Achilles Tendon Using Ultrashort Echo Time MRI and Shear Wave Elastography Ultrasound

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Previous observations of multi‐echo ultrashort echo time (UTE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) decay data from the Achilles tendon (AT) report an off‐resonance non‐water signal associated with non‐collagenous extracellular matrix (ECM) constituents.

Therapeutic Window of Laser Dosimetry for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We propose a non‐destructive laser method that uses controlled thermomechanical action to treat degenerative cartilage changes. The technique aims to reduce pain, offers a minimally invasive option for early‐ to mid‐stage degeneration, and lessens the need for joint replacement.

Novel Antioxidant and Antibacterial Injectable Hydrogels Incorporating Clove Oil‐Loaded Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Promising Strategy for Enhanced Bone Regeneration

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, EarlyView.
A novel injectable hydrogel composed of alginate–gelatin–xanthan gum incorporating clove oil (CLV)‐loaded mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles is developed. The system demonstrates enhanced antioxidant and antibacterial activity, increased Young's modulus, and good injectability.

Biomechanics of the Lumbar Facet Joint

open access: yesSpine Surgery and Related Research, 2020
Zygapophyseal, or facet, joints are complicated biomechanical structures in the spine, with a complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy, variable mechanical functions in different spinal movements, and effects on the overall spine mechanical behavior.

Development of a Grasshopper‐Leg‐Inspired Back‐Type Exoskeleton for the Reduction of Muscle Activation During Stoop Activities

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Farmers frequently suffer from musculoskeletal disorders, particularly lower back pain (LBP), mainly due to occupational ergonomic factors such as repetitive stooping and lifting. This study proposes using an exoskeleton to reduce LBP risk by providing external torque to the hip joints.
