[Vesico-intestinal fistulas].

The authors report the various locations (ileal, appendicular, colic, rectal and through Meckel diverticulum) of the fistulas between the bladder and the digestive tract and specify the mainly inflammatory etiologies and specifically those due to the Crohn disease or those caused by tumors aggravated by irradiation and repeated surgery.

[Vesico-intestinal fistulas].

A review is given on frequency, etiology, anatomopathology and physiopathology of vesico-intestinal fistulas. Symptomatology and diagnosis with stress on adjuvant technical investigations are studied. In conclusion the principles for a surgical treatment are discussed.

Abstract This survey on vesico-intestinal fistulae is based on the summary of eighty-seven cases from the literature of the past ten years, together with one personal case. The total number on record is 592. It occurs most frequently in the fifth to the seventh decades of life and is two to three times more frequent in men than in women.

[Vesico-intestinal fistulae].

Review of vesicointestinal fistulae cases treated in the Urology Unit at our hospital over the last few years. Most frequently seen cause was colorectal cancer (66%) and most frequent location was vesicosigmoideal (50%). Clinical signs and symptoms were varied, mainly urinary infection in 100% cases, pneumaturia in 66% and fecaluria in 50%.
