Bio‐Inspired Micro‐Fin‐Assisted Multi‐Modal Vascular Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A magnetic guidewire with a micro‐fin–integrated tip is introduced for multimodal cardiovascular navigation. The micro‐fins exploit fluid drag to augment magnetic torque, enabling bifurcation traversal at 15 mT, tolerating 45° misalignment, bidirectional crawling, and buckle self‐correction.

Gut Bacterium Lysinibacillus Sphaericus Exacerbates Aspirin‐induced Intestinal Injury by Production of Carboxylesterase EstB

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic overview illustrating the detrimental role of gut microbiota in aspirin‐induced intestinal injury. L. sphaericus and its secreted carboxylesterase EstB are identified as key drivers that catalyze aspirin hydrolysis into salicylic acid, thereby exacerbating intestinal injury. Inhibition of EstB by the dietary compound flavanomarein effectively

Henoch-Schönlein purpura from vasculitis to intestinal perforation: A case report and literature review.

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2016
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is generally a self-limited vasculitis disease and has a good prognosis. We report a 4-year-old Thai boy who presented with palpable purpura, abdominal colicky pain, seizure, and eventually developed intestinal ischemia and

Precision‐Engineered Silver Single‐Atom Carbon Dot Nanozymes for Theranostic Management of Acute Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mitochondria‐targeted silver single‐atom carbon dot (T‐AgSA‐CDs) nanozymes enable dual SOD/GPx‐like ROS scavenging, real‐time imaging, and therapeutic effects for acute kidney injury (AKI). Atomically dispersed Ag sites synergize with carbon dots to restore renal redox hemostasis, protect mitochondrial function, mitigate inflammation, facilitate post ...

Case Report: Delayed Perforation after Definitive Treatment of Focal Intestinal Perforation with a Peritoneal Drain

open access: yesCase Reports in Surgery, 2012
Focal intestinal perforation (FIP) has long been described in the pediatric literature. Peritoneal drainage (PD) is widely used as treatment for focal intestinal perforation. Here we report a premature infant that underwent PD on day of life 9 for a FIP.

Association of intestinal alkaline phosphatase with necrotizing enterocolitis among premature infants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Importance: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants is an often-fatal gastrointestinal tract emergency. A robust NEC biomarker that is not confounded by sepsis could improve bedside management, lead to lower morbidity and mortality, and permit

A Fatal Complication: Intestinal Perforation Secondary to Migration of a Biliary Stent

open access: yesPolish Journal of Radiology, 2016
Summary Background Stent insertion is widely performed to restore biliary drainage in hepatic, biliary, and pancreatic obstructive conditions. Intestinal perforation due to the migration of these stents is an extremely rare late-term complication that is

RADA16 and SAAP148 Peptide‐Modified Collagen Self‐Assembled Hydrogels for Accelerated Healing of Infected Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Collagen type I (Col I) is integrated with self‐assembling peptide RADA16 and loaded with anti‐bacterial peptide SAAP148 to develop a self‐assembled nano‐microstructure hydrogel (Col I‐RADA16‐SAAP148, CRS) without chemical cross‐linkers. CRS exhibits excellent mechanical properties, sustained SAAP148 release to inhibit bacterial infection, macrophage ...

Intestinal perforation during chemotherapeutic treatment of intra-abdominal desmoid tumor in patients with Gardner’s syndrome: report of two cases

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2016
BackgroundA minority of intra-abdominal desmoid tumors is associated with Gardner’s syndrome in which desmoid tumors become an important cause of morbidity and mortality if they are surgically unresectable.Case presentationHere, we report two cases of ...
