Abstract A study has been made of 34 patients on whom 37 operations were performed for volvulus of the small intestine. The etiologic factors were most frequently found to be peritoneal adhesions and congenital anomalies. In about half the cases signs of intestinal obstruction were present without interference with the circulation.
