Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is an increasingly recognized clinical syndrome; however, its etiophathogenesis is poorly understood. We hypothesized that loss of gastric acid, a delayed intestinal transit, and ileocecal valve dysfunction may contribute to the genesis of this syndrome. Our primary aim was to assess these parameters using ...

The Value of Intestinal Valves in Urinary Diversion — an Experimental Study
British Journal of Urology, 1975Summary It has been shown in experimental animals that an ileorectal valve incorporated into the operation of uretero‐ileosigmoidostomy cannot be relied upon to prevent ascending urinary tract infection. However, a colorectal valve, not previously described, has been effective in preventing the development of a ...

Hydrodynamic Assessment of Aortic Valves Prepared from Porcine Small Intestinal Submucosa
Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology, 2016Infants and children born with severe cardiac valve lesions have no effective long term treatment options since currently available tissue or mechanical prosthetic valves have sizing limitations and no avenue to accommodate the growth of the pediatric patient. Tissue engineered heart valves (TEHVs) which could provide for growth, self-repair, infection

Role of enteric plexuses in the competency of telescoped intestinal valves
The American Journal of Surgery, 1987The mechanism of preventing intestinal regurgitation by means of a telescoped intestinal valve has been investigated in this study. Ten telescoped intestinal valves were uniformly created in dogs. A tolerance test to barium reflux was performed before the animals were sacrificed 16 weeks postoperatively, which yielded various barium tolerance values ...

Intestinal Obstruction in the Newborn Due to a Sigmoid Colon Valve
Archives of Surgery, 1958Intestinal obstruction in the neonatal period secondary to the congenital anomalies of malrotation, peritoneal bands, atresias, stenoses, reduplications, and meconium ileus are well-recognized clinical entities which have been lucidly and precisely described and reported in the surgical literature and standard textbooks.

Morbidity and mortality are especially increased in pediatric patients affected of short bowel syndrome in whom ileocecal valve was resected. This report concerns 13 infants and children with short gut syndrome with ileocecal valve resected treated in the last 4 years.

Small-intestinal bleeding from angiodysplasia after aortic valve replacement.
The Journal of heart valve disease, 2003An association between aortic stenosis and angiodysplasia of the gut has been reported, though this is unproven. In many instances, recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding originating from angiodysplasia has ceased following aortic valve replacement (AVR). A case is reported of massive bleeding from a small-intestinal angiodysplasia after AVR.

[An additional use of the small intestinal invagination valve].
Chirurgisches Forum fur experimentelle und klinische Forschung, 1979Extensive small intestine resection (70--90%) as should be done after mesenteric infarction produces a chronic malabsorption syndrome with its consequences. Applying an invagination valve of the small intestine (Kock) and using the isoperistaltic modification, passage of the chyme is delayed and its resorption improved.

[Intestinal obstruction due to endometriosis of the ileocecal valve].
Minerva chirurgica, 1995Intestinal endometriosis can rarely show itself bowel obstruction. An accurate anamnesis, radiological tests and endoscopy are of some use for correct diagnosis. Frequently however, differential diagnosis with others of pathology is not possible either in preoperative or in postoperative management, but by means of histological finding. We present here
