Human Apolipoprotein B Transgenic Mice Generated with 207- and 145-Kilobase Pair Bacterial Artificial Chromosomes. Evidence that a distant 5'-element confers appropriate transgene expression in the intestine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We reported previously that ~80-kilobase pair (kb) P1 bacteriophage clones spanning either the human or mouse apoB gene (clones p158 and p649, respectively) confer apoB expression in the liver of transgenic mice, but not in the intestine. We hypothesized

The model of circular and longitudinal smooth muscle motions in the motility of intestinal segment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Coordination in circular and longitudinal muscle motions are of crucial importance in the motor function of gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Intestinal wall motions depend on myogenic-active properties of smooth muscles layers of intestinal wall, which is the ability to create active contractile forces in response to distension.

Application of Structural Similarity Analysis of Visually Salient Areas and Hierarchical Clustering in the Screening of Similar Wireless Capsule Endoscopic Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Small intestinal capsule endoscopy is the mainstream method for inspecting small intestinal lesions, but a single small intestinal capsule endoscopy will produce 60,000 - 120,000 images, the majority of which are similar and have no diagnostic value. It takes 2 - 3 hours for doctors to identify lesions from these images.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Bacterial Community Assembly and Turnover within the Intestines of Developing Zebrafish

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Background The majority of animal associated microorganisms are present in digestive tract communities. These intestinal communities arise from selective pressures of the gut habitats as well as host's genotype are regarded as an extra ‘organ’ regulate ...

VEGFR-3 signaling regulates triglyceride retention and absorption in the intestine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The lymphatic system transports dietary lipids absorbed and packaged as chylomicrons by enterocytes, for delivery to the bloodstream. Once considered a passive drainage, chylomicron entry into intestinal lymphatic vessels, or lacteals, is now emerging to

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Antagonistic activity of two potential probiotic bacteria from fish intestines and investigation of their effects on growth performance and immune response in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yes, 2012
Summary The probiotic activity of two bacterial strains, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, isolated from common carp intestines was studied using antagonistic tests in vitro against Yersinia ruckeri.
