Critical roles of chemokine receptor CCR10 in regulating memory IgA responses in intestines

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2011
Chemokine receptor CCR10 is expressed by all intestinal IgA-producing plasma cells and is suggested to play an important role in positioning these cells in the lamina propria for proper IgA production to maintain intestinal homeostasis and protect ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Metabolism and functions of L-glutamate in the epithelial cells of the small and large intestines.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2009
l-Glutamate is one of the most abundant amino acids in alimentary proteins, but its concentration in blood is among the lowest. This is largely because l-glutamate is extensively oxidized in small intestine epithelial cells during its transcellular ...

Unintended targeting of Dmp1-Cre reveals a critical role for Bmpr1a signaling in the gastrointestinal mesenchyme of adult mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cre/loxP technology has been widely used to study cell type-specific functions of genes. Proper interpretation of such data critically depends on a clear understanding of the tissue specificity of Cre expression. The Dmp1-Cre mouse, expressing Cre from a

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Trichinellosis in mice: effect of albendazole on the glutathione transferase in the intestines.

open access: yesFolia Parasitologica, 2012
The glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a family of multifunctional enzymes involved in cellular detoxification. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of albendazole--drug of choice for trichinellosis--on the total activity and kinetics of ...

Is the intestinal microbiota in rainbow trout influenced by diet type and challenge by Yersinia ruckeri? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In recent years it has become more and more evident that the bacterial flora in the gut of warm-blooded animals modulates physiological processes and the immunological status of the host.

The discovery of lymphatic system as a turning point in medical knowledge: Aselli, Pecquet and the end of hepatocentrism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, I would like to analyse the impact of the discovery of lymphatic system on the development of the modern conception of human body. The discovery of lymphatics, as that of blood circulation, has in fact questioned important tenets of Galen ...

Histological and Histochemical Studies on the Esophagus, Stomach and Small Intestines of Vara-nus niloticus [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Vet. Anat. Vol 2 No1, (2009) 35 - 48, 2016
The aim of the current study was to investigate the morphological structure of one of the most common reptilian species in Egypt, Varanus niloticus or Nile monitor. Specimens for histological examination were collected from the esophageus, stomach and small intestine of the Nile monitor and processed for paraffin embedding.
