Carotid intima-media thickness for the practicing lipidologist
Journal of Clinical Lipidology, 2010It is well known that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States and in many parts of the developed world. However, early detection of atherosclerosis remains a challenging area of research and development. Stress echo and myocardial perfusion studies were not designed to be screening tests and the majority of

Snoring and carotid artery intima‐media thickness
The Laryngoscope, 2014Objectives/HypothesisA growing body of evidence indicates that primary snoring (PS) may be the initial presentation of sleep‐disordered breathing and can adversely affect an individual's health. Individuals with the sole diagnosis of PS were evaluated to determine if a relationship exists between snoring and thickening of the intima media of the ...

Atherosclerosis Supplements, 2008
Males have higher coronary heart disease (CHD) lifetime risk and increased magnitude of atherosclerosis, compared with women. Using very high-resolution ultrasound, we have shown that the intima thickness (IT) of radial and dorsal pedal arteries, measured separately from the media thickness (MT), increases with age.

Atherosclerosis, 2016
Subclinical atherosclerosis assessed by sonographic intima-media-thickness measurement of the carotid artery (cIMT) is considered to be an early precursor of cardiovascular disease already in childhood. Structural analysis of the carotid intimal layer (carotid intima-media-roughness, cIMR) improves cardiovascular risk profiling for the adult patient ...

Questioning the Predictive Role of Carotid intima–media Thickness
Future Cardiology, 2011Interest in carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), as a tool to evaluate cardiovascular risk has been driven by studies that demonstrate a relationship between carotid IMT and the incidence of cardiovascular events. However, no study was designed and powered to demonstrate a relationship between changes in carotid IMT during follow-up and cardiovascular
