Intra aortic balloon pump: literature review of risk factors related to complications of the intraaortic balloon pump

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2011
The increasing use of the intra aortic balloon pump is attributed to the relatively easy percutaneous insertion and the low threshold of use over the past few years, especially in elderly patients with multi-vessel diseases and an affected ejection ...

Can we have a rationalized selection of intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in the catheterization laboratory?

open access: yesCardiology Journal, 2020
Cardiac assistance represents an emerging issue in cardiovascular medicine. The evolution of invasive cardiology techniques is making the catheterization laboratory one of the main hospital sites where implantation of percutaneous ventricular assistance ...

Pediatric vascular compression of the esophagus: Endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe as a complement to imaging and endoscopy

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Vascular anomalies can cause extrinsic esophageal compression, leading to dysphagia or feeding difficulties in children. Diagnosis typically relies on imaging and endoscopy, which may under‐ or overestimate functional narrowing. Endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe (EndoFLIP) provides luminal parameters in real‐time, but its ...

A comparison of sequential total and activated white cell count in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, using cardiopulmonary bypass, with and without a white cell filter

open access: yes, 1999
Introduction Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has been shown to induce a systemic inflammatory response similar to the local reaction seen after tissue damage [1].

Undiagnosed aortic dissection in patient with intra-aortic balloon pump

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2016
60 years old lady presented with chest pain and was admitted in local hospital. Electrocardiogram was suggestive of anterior myocardial ischemia. Patient underwent coronary angiography which revealed severe triple vessles coronary artery disease.

Pre‐operative anaemia, red blood cell transfusion and mortality after cardiac surgery: a Netherlands Heart Registration mediation analysis

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Pre‐operative anaemia is an established risk factor for mortality after cardiac surgery. The extent to which this risk is mediated by complications related to red blood cell transfusion remains uncertain, particularly across different age groups.

Acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock: an algorithm based ECMO program can improve clinical outcomes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Objective: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in our institution resulted in near total mortality prior to the establishment of an algorithm-based program in July 2010. We hypothesized that an algorithm based ECMO program improves the outcome of

Systematic differences between Cochrane and non-Cochrane meta-analyses on the same topic: a matched pair analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Meta-analyses conducted via the Cochrane Collaboration adhere to strict methodological and reporting standards aiming to minimize bias, maximize transparency/reproducibility, and improve the accuracy of summarized data.

Total arterial off-pump surgery provides excellent outcomes and does not compromise complete revascularization† [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
OBJECTIVES The combination of aortic ‘no-touch' off-pump surgery (OPCAB) and total arterial revascularization (TAR) can reduce peri-procedural morbidity and yields excellent long-term outcomes albeit at a reported risk of incomplete revascularization ...

Machine Learning‐Based Prediction of Life‐Threatening Complications During Hemodialysis in Hospitalized Patients With Poor General Conditions

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
A machine learning model using predialysis data predicted sudden events during or after hemodialysis with high accuracy (auROC: 0.889). The key predictors included emergency hospitalization, recent surgery, high heart rate, low albumin levels, and high CRP.
