Mathematical modelling of intra-aortic balloon pump
Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2010Ischemic heart diseases now afflict thousands of Iranians and are the major cause of death in many industrialised countries. Mathematical modelling of an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) could provide a better understanding of its performance and help to represent blood flow and pressure in systemic arteries before and after inserting the pump.A ...

Spontaneous rupture of an intra-aortic balloon pump
Intensive Care Medicine, 1981Circulatory assistance with an intraaortic balloon pump is not free from risks and complications. Among the latter, rupture is extremely rare. We report a case of spontaneous rupture of an intraaortic balloon, which occurred after 29 h of counterpulsation in a patient with cardiogenic shock following an acute myocardial infarction.

Intra-aortic Balloon Pumping Manual
Archives of Surgery, 1975The Intra-aortic Balloon Pumping Manual by Penny J. Ford, RN, and Ronald M. Weintraub, MD, should be a welcome addition to the hospitals now employing this type of system. For a number of years, intra-aortic balloon pumping has been going through developmental stages. Along with this, printed instructions were largely developed by each institution.

Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
2017Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), at the present time, continues to be the most commonly used cardiac support device. IABPs enhance myocardial function by maximizing oxygen supply and minimizing oxygen demand. A balloon placed in the proximal descending aorta is inflated and deflated, and by synchronizing this counterpulsation with either the ECG or ...

Indications for Intra-aortic Balloon Pumping
1979The applications of the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) in various forms of left heart insufficiency has gained more significance in the last 10 years. Due to its main effects, decompression of the left ventricle and increase of the coronary pressure, IABP is indicated in all situations in which an inadequacy between cardiac output (CO) demand and ...
