Design and testing of an intra-row mechanical weeding machine for corn

Biosystems Engineering, 2011
As an alternative to chemical weed control, mechanical weed control between crop rows can be achieved using standard tools such as field cultivators. This paper addresses the related problem of achieving mechanical intra-row weed control in maize. The object was to non-specifically remove weed plants within the row by enabling dual tine carriers to ...

Relationship between speed, soil movement into the cereal row and intra‐row weed control efficacy by weed harrowing

Weed Research, 2003
SummaryField trials were carried out at a single Danish and two Spanish locations. In Denmark, winter wheat was sown at 24‐cm row spacing allowing hoeing in the inter‐row area. Hoeing speeds of 2, 5 and 8 km h−1 were tested at the end of tillering, at the beginning of stem elongation or on both occasions.

Flaming for intra-row weed control in Globe Artichoke

2004
The artichoke (Cynara scolimus L.) is a perennial plant and today is mainly cultivated for the production of the edible flower buds. Italy is the largest producer as well as the largest consumer of artichokes. Nearly half of the world artichokes are grown in Italy.

Mechatronic System for Mechanical Weed Control of the Intra-row Area in Row Crops

KI - Künstliche Intelligenz, 2013
The dissertation discusses the problem of mechanical weed control within the intra-row area in row crops. A novel concept featuring an electrically driven weeding tool similar to that applied in rotational crop thinning systems is proposed. The special characteristics of the system include the ability to tune rotational speed of the hoeing tool ...
