Improved lossless intra coding for next generation video coding
SPIE Proceedings, 2016Recently, there have been efforts by the ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG to further improve the compression performance of the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard for developing a potential next generation video coding standard. Fast coding tree unit decision for HEVC intra coding
2013 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics - China, 2013The Quad-tree structure in HEVC contributes to significant coding efficiency improvement, especially for high resolution videos. However, its recursive representation increases the coding complexity as well. This paper brings forward a fast coding tree unit algorithm to speed up the original intra coding in HEVC.

High priority intra coding method for depth video coding
2012 Picture Coding Symposium, 2012Depth video coding is one of the key techniques to realize the three-dimensional (3D) video system. The depth video is spatially high correlated compared to its corresponding color video in general. In this paper, we propose a high priority intra coding method for depth video coding to efficiently reduce the spatial redundancy.

Hybrid angular intra/template matching prediction for HEVC intra coding
2015 Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2015In the latest HEVC video coding standard, angular intra prediction (AIP) applies 35 modes including 33 angular modes which can handle blocks with direction information well, and other 2 modes (DC and planar) which are used to predict smooth blocks. However, for blocks with complex texture, these modes may not give good predictions.

Intra Coding With Adaptive Partial Reconstruction
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2013Intra prediction improves coding performance by reducing inter pixel redundancy. However, to accommodate the use of block transforms, not all pixels can be predicted from reconstructed pixels that are located close to themselves. This causes prediction performance to suffer as pixel values further apart are less correlated.
