Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Decision Tree Models and Early Splitting Termination in Screen Content Extension of High Efficiency Video Coding

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A Screen Content (SC) extension to the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard has been developed to improve the encoding of SC sequences. SC scenes are rich in repeated patterns, non-noisy regions, sharp-edge areas, and blocks with limited colors ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Fast Machine Learning Aided Intra Mode Decision for Real-Time VVC Intra Coding

open access: yes
Reducing the huge computational complexity of intra mode decision is the key to real-time Video Coding (VVC). This paper proposes a fast intra mode decision scheme that takes advantage of lightweight machine learning (ML) models to classify intra modes ...

Parallel Rate-Distortion Optimized Intra Mode Decision on Multi-Core Graphics Processors Using Greedy-Based Encoding Orders

open access: yes, 2009
Rate-distortion (RD) optimized intra-prediction mode selection can lead to significant improvement in coding efficiency in intra-frame encoding. However, it would incur considerable increase in encoding complexity. In this paper, we investigate how multi-

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.
