Generalizability of extracellular-to-intracellular fluid ratio using bio-impedance spectroscopy

Physiological Measurement, 2006
Generalizability theory was used to investigate the score consistency of observed extracellular fluid/intracellular fluid (ECF/ICF) ratio measurements for both the global and leg-segmental bio-impedance spectroscopy methods. The test instrument used was a Xitron Hydra ECF/ICF Bio-Impedance Analyzer System, model 4200 (Xitron Technologies, San Diego, CA)

Intracellular response byTetrahymena pyriformis to Fluids from Unimmunized animals

Experientia, 1973

Intracellular membranes are more fluid in platelets of Alzheimer's disease patients

Neurobiology of Aging, 1991
We studied 12 patients with probable Alzheimer's disease versus age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects. Platelets were subfractionated into intracellular membranes and plasma membranes, and steady-state anisotropy of diphenylhexatriene was measured on the preparations as an index of membrane fluidity.

Effects of fluid flow on intracellular calcium in bovine articular chondrocytes

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1997
Fluid flow-induced shear stress results in a variety of morphological and metabolic changes in cultured bovine articular chondrocytes (BAC). However, the mechanism by which the flow signal is transduced into a biological response is unknown. Therefore, we investigated the effects of fluid flow on intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) in BAC ...

Frusemide results in an extracellular to intracellular fluid shift in horses

Equine Veterinary Journal, 2006
Summary Reasons for performing study: Frusemide (Lasix) is commonly used diuretic in horse racing and equine clinical practice. While pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, renal and haematological effects of frusemide have been studied in horses, its effects on the distribution of fluid within the ...

Potassium, sodium, and the intracellular fluid space of cells from bone

Calcified Tissue International, 1979
Cells enzymatically dispersed from fetal rat calvaria were analyzed for sodium and potassium content and intracellular fluid space (ICF). Even when obtained in comparatively high yield, the cells are damaged by the isolation procedure as evidenced by high sodium and low potassium content immediately after isolation.

Extracellular and Intracellular Fluid Volume Monitoring During Dialysis by Multifrequency Impedancemetry

ASAIO JOURNAL, 1996
Impedance techniques can, in principle, permit non-invasive monitoring of extracellular (Ve) and intracellular (Vi) fluid volumes during dialysis. The authors present a method that determines the resistances Re and Ri of extracellular and intracellular compartments, respectively, by extrapolating impedance measurement toward zero, as well as infinite ...
