How to Move from Cell to Cell without Leaving the Intracellular Space: Lessons from Intracellular Parasites

Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Virology, 2021
Intracellular parasites play an important role in human infectious diseases. Pathogenic bacteria of four genera (Shigella, Listeria, Rickettsia, and Burkholderia) have developed similar strategies for intracellular multiplication and dissemination inside tissues and organs: these bacteria destroy the phagosome to multiply in the cytoplasm and spread ...

Intracellular “Fibrous Long Spacing” Collagen in Morbus Dupuytren (Dupuytren's Contracture)

Beiträge zur Pathologie, 1977
Fine structural analysis of 21 surgically removed specimens of Morbus Dupuytren (Dupuytren's contracture) in the cells of the proliferative phase revealed spindle-shaped or round, periodic banded structures of 1--1.5 micron size. These intracellular structures are surrounded by trilaminar membranes of 45 A continuous with membranes of the endoplasmic ...

Glucocorticoid receptor number and intracellular water space

Leukemia Research, 1984
In order to elucidate the relationship between cell water content and number of glucocorticoid receptors, eleven normal and malignant lymphoid or myelomonocytic cell types originating from mouse, rat and man were investigated. The cellular water space was measured with 3H2O, and glucocorticoid receptor number was measured in a whole-cell binding assay ...

Intracellular, Interstitial and Plasma Spaces in the Rat Myocardium

Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 1997
The aim of this study was to determine tissue water spaces in rat heartin vivousing [14C]-inulin or D-[14C]-mannitol as extracellular markers, and 2,3DPG as whole blood tissue marker. Tracer was injected into the jugular vein of anaesthetised male Sprague–Dawley rats (60 mg/kg) and allowed to equilibrate for 30 min.

Potassium, sodium, and the intracellular fluid space of cells from bone

Calcified Tissue International, 1979
Cells enzymatically dispersed from fetal rat calvaria were analyzed for sodium and potassium content and intracellular fluid space (ICF). Even when obtained in comparatively high yield, the cells are damaged by the isolation procedure as evidenced by high sodium and low potassium content immediately after isolation.
