Shotgun wound and pellet embolism to the intracranial carotid artery [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2011
Missile embolism into the cerebral circulation is a very unusual complication of shotgun wounds to the chest or neck. We report a case of an 11-year-old boy who sustained an air gunshot wound and pellet embolism to the intracranial carotid artery. The cerebral artery pellet embolus resulted in contralateral hemiplegia.

Embolism from intracranial aneurysms

open access: bronzeJournal of Neurosurgery, 1980
✓ Embolism from an aneurysm is one of the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of ischemic symptoms associated with intracranial aneurysms. Four cases are reported in which aneurysms of the internal carotid arteries and middle cerebral arteries were the source of emboli resulting in cerebral infarction.

Acute Compartment Syndrome Post-Thrombolysis for Acute Pulmonary Embolism-A Case Report. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Case Rep
ABSTRACT The use of thrombolysis for acute pulmonary embolism is well established. Thrombolysis poses the risk of mostly minor bleeding; however, intracranial bleeding is the most feared complication. Less recognized is the possibility of limb‐threatening complications, such as acute compartment syndrome, which need a high index of suspicion, prompt ...

Study on the efficacy of compound porcine cerebroside and ganglioside injection in patients with ischemic stroke: A randomized, single‐center, open‐label, prospective study

open access: yesIbrain, EarlyView., 2023
Compound porcine perebroside and ganglioside injection (CPCGI) was used to treat ischemic stroke. However, there was no clinical evidence of low‐dose CPCGI. We conducted a clinical study to analyze whether the clinical results of low‐dose and standard‐dose CPCGI in patients with ischemic stroke were different.

Onyx Embolization of Intracranial Pial Arteriovenous Fistula [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery, 2016
Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are rare cerebrovascular lesions consisting of one or more arterial connections to a single venous channel without an intervening nidus. Because of the location and high flow dynamics of these lesions, neurosurgeons may have a difficulty deciding between endovascular treatment and open surgical treatment.

Preoperative Embolization of Intracranial Meningiomas

open access: yesNeurologia medico-chirurgica, 1985
The method and results for preoperative embolization are described in 36 cases with intracranial meningiomas. Embolization materials were injected through a transfemoral catheter, selectively placed in the external carotid artery. Chopped gelfoam served as embolization material in 29 patients and ivalon particles were used in 7 patients.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies for Acute Intracranial Atherosclerosis-related Occlusions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stroke, 2017
Intracranial atherosclerosis-related occlusion (ICAS-O) is frequently encountered at the time of endovascular revascularization treatment (ERT), especially in Asian countries. However, because baseline angiographic findings are similar between ICAS-O and
