Zoonotic Approach to Streptococcus agalactiae: Integrated Analysis of Sympatric Dairy Cattle and Human Isolates

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) is one of the most important pathogens causing bovine mastitis which also can colonise humans and cause severe diseases. To investigate the potential hazard of interspecific transmission, we selected 215 isolates (150 human + 65 bovine ones) obtained in a same period and geographical area ...

Environmental Streptococcal Intramammary Infections of the Bovine Mammary Gland

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1995
Characteristics of environmental streptococcal IMI were investigated over a 7-yr period for a herd in total confinement. A total of 374 new environmental streptococcal IMI was detected. Approximately 50.5% of IMI were new in the dry period, and 49.5% were new in lactation.

Efficacy of an Iodine Backflush for Preventing New Intramammary Infections

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1984
Efficacy of an iodine backflush system for reducing new intramammary infection was tested in two 11-wk trials. Forty cows in each trial were paired by breed, age, stage of lactation, and intramammary infection status. Each pair was assigned randomly either to a group milked with clusters that were reverse flushed with water, 25 ppm iodine, water and ...
