Advancements in intraocular lens power calculation formulas

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2021
Purpose of review We review recent studies comparing intraocular lens (IOL) formulas with an emphasis on selection of the highest performing formulas based on patient axial length, age, and history of previous corneal refractive surgery.

Calculations of Intraocular Lens Power

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1986
To the Editor. —In the April 1986 issue of theArchives, Holladay and coworkers 1 present a lucid description of factors affecting the calculation of intraocular lens power and make reasoned recommendations on how results may be improved. Their empirical data, however, require comment.

An Improved Intraocular Lens Power Calculator

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1982
SUMMARY An easily operated, self-prompting, hand-held computer system simultaneously uses various prediction methods to print estimated intraocular lens implant powers. Predictions for specific lens styles are generated without requiring knowledge on the user's part of implant characteristics.

Pediatric intraocular lens power calculations

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2012
To implant an appropriate intraocular lens (IOL) in a child, we must measure the eye well, calculate the IOL power accurately and predict the refractive change of the pseudophakic eye to maturity. The present review will concentrate on recent studies dealing with these issues.Immersion A-scan biometry is superior in measuring the axial length of ...

Biometry and intraocular lens power calculation

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2005
This article surveys the literature of 1 year, between July 2003 and August 2004, on the topic of biometry and intraocular lens power calculation for cataract surgery. There is an increasing demand for low postoperative refractive error with rising patient expectations, especially with patients who have already undergone refractive surgery, and with ...

Intraocular lens power calculation in eyes with keratoconus

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2019
To assess the refractive accuracy of different formulas for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation in eyes with keratoconus.IRCCS Fondazione Bietti, Rome, Italy.Multicenter retrospective interventional study.A consecutive series of eyes with keratoconus that had cataract surgery were evaluated.

Improving the Predictability of Intraocular Lens Power Calculations

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1986
We reviewed the intraocular lens power calculations on 512 posterior chamber lens implantations and determined four ways to reduce the estimated 5% incidence of large postoperative refractive "surprises" (greater than 2 diopters [D]): First, preoperatively identify those patients who have greater than a 1-D difference between the theoretical and linear

Calculation of Intraocular Lens Power

2020
The selection of intraocular lens (IOL) power in pediatric patients is decidedly different and more complex than when making a similar choice in adult patients. The choice of IOL power is driven by many factors such as the patient’s age at cataract surgery, the presence of unilateral or bilateral cataracts, the refractive error of the fellow eye, the ...

The SRKII Formula in the Calculation of Intraocular Lens Power

Ophthalmologica, 1998
This study compares the predictive accuracy of the SRKII formula for groups with average axial length and long eyes. 344 eyes which underwent cataract extraction with implantation of a posterior-chamber intraocular lens were included in the survey; 246 eyes had an average axial length (22.0–24.49 mm), and 98 eyes had an axial length of more than 24.50
