Systems genetics identifies a role for Cacna2d1 regulation in elevated intraocular pressure and glaucoma susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Glaucoma is a multi-factorial blinding disease in which genetic factors play an important role. Elevated intraocular pressure is a highly heritable risk factor for primary open angle glaucoma and currently the only target for glaucoma therapy.

Solvent types used for the preparation of hydrogels determine their mechanical properties and influence cell viability through gelatine and calcium ions release

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 111, Issue 2, Page 314-330, February 2023., 2023
By the selection of the hydrogel composition, applied solvents, and concentration of the cross‐linking compound, it is possible to modify the properties of the materials designated for bioinks for 3D printing in Bone Tissue Engineering. Abstract Alginate‐gelatin hydrogels are the most commonly used materials for 3D bioprinting.

Evaluation of filtering blebs using the ‘Wuerzburg bleb classification score’ compared to clinical findings

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2012
Background To determine the agreement between intraocular pressure and the ‘Wuerzburg bleb classification score’, as well as between single items of the score and intraocular pressure. Interobserver variability was analyzed.

A Case of Cyclodialysis after Microhook Trabeculotomy Treated with Vitreous Surgery

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2021
We report a case of cyclodialysis with decreased visual acuity after microhook trabeculotomy (mTLO) successfully treated by vitreous surgery. A 41-year-old man had been medically treated for primary open-angle glaucoma in both eyes.

Automatic Segmentation of the Optic Nerve Head Region in Optical Coherence Tomography: A Methodological Review [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The optic nerve head represents the intraocular section of the optic nerve (ONH), which is prone to damage by intraocular pressure. The advent of optical coherence tomography (OCT) has enabled the evaluation of novel optic nerve head parameters, namely the depth and curvature of the lamina cribrosa (LC).

Intraocular Pressure Elevation in the Contralateral Untreated Eye Following Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in Rabbit Eyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Our study aimed at evaluating if a single session of unilateral selective laser trabeculoplasty would affect the intraocular pressure of the fellow untreated eye in rabbits. Eleven rabbits were involved.

Ocular manifestations of psoriasis: An inflammatory disease beyond the skin

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 45-49, January 2023., 2023
Psoriasis can lead to meibomian gland dysfunction, especially in patients with long‐lasting disease. Hence, dermatologists and general practitioners should be vigilant in this regard when visiting psoriasis patients, especially those who have higher PASI values or long‐lasting disease.

A Theoretical Study of Aqueous Humor Secretion Based on a Continuum Model Coupling Electrochemical and Fluid-Dynamical Transmembrane Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesCommun. Appl. Math. Comput. Sci. 14 (2019) 65-103, 2017
Intraocular pressure, resulting from the balance of aqueous humor (AH) production and drainage, is the only approved treatable risk factor in glaucoma. AH production is determined by the concurrent function of ionic pumps and aquaporins in the ciliary processes but their individual contribution is difficult to characterize experimentally. In this work,

GWAS-by-subtraction reveals an IOP-independent component of primary open angle glaucoma

open access: yesNature Communications
The etiology of primary open angle glaucoma is constituted by both intraocular pressure-dependent and intraocular pressure-independent mechanisms.

A Wireless Wearable Sensor System Based on a Silver Nanowire‐Decorated Silicon Nanomembrane for Precise and Continuous Hazardous Gas Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silver nanowire‐decorated silicon nanomembrane (AgNW‐SiNM) wireless wearable gas sensor exhibits a high response of ≈1.83 upon exposure to 10 ppm NH3. A stacked structure of the AgNW‐SiNM gas sensor with a flexible Joule heater improves the recovery rate after gas exposure.
