Intraoperative Electroencephalography
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 1993EEG is useful in several operating room procedures. It has come to be a standard part of monitoring patients during carotid endarterectomy. Monitoring for cerebral hypoperfusion or emboli can also be done in cardiac surgery or other similar settings. For carotid endarterectomy, studies in humans suggest that the risk of stroke can be reduced 10-fold by

Intraoperative radioimmunodetection
Seminars in Surgical Oncology, 1998The radioimmunoguided surgery (RIGS) system employs a monoclonal antibody (CC49), a radionuclide (Iodine-125), and a hand-held gamma-detecting probe (the Neoprobe model 1000). The prototype cancer studied has been colorectal cancer. The antibody identifies a type of mucin, the by-product of the adenocarcinoma cancer cell.

Seminars in Radiation Oncology, 2005
Intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) has been used for many years for treating patients with various locally-advanced malignancies, usually combined with external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT). Long-term results confirm that IORT improves local control, which is generally associated with increased survival.

Intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) can provide various diagnostic information that is otherwise not available, and can guide or assist various surgical procedures in real time. With refinement of equipment, IOUS is currently used in a wide variety of surgical operations, such as hepatobiliary, pancreatic, endocrine, cardiovascular, and neurologic surgery ...

Surgical Endoscopy, 1993
From 1987 to 1991, we performed intraoperative colonoscopy on 66 patients as a result of the following indications: the air leakage test (53%), detection of a previous malignant polypectomy site (20%), inability to complete preoperative colonoscopy (17%), detection of the source of intestinal bleeding (4%), and detection of impalpable colonic lesions ...

Intraoperative profilometry measurements were done on 28 patients during various types of urethropexy to determine whether useful information could be provided to the operating surgeon. Successful Burch, Marshall-Marchetti and Stamey-Pereyra procedures resulted in a 50 per cent increase in urethral length.

Of 768 angioplasties performed in our institute, 42 procedures (5%) in 39 patients were performed by a radiologist in the operating room in combination with vascular surgery; 15 ilial, 20 femoral, 5 tibial, 1 renal, and 1 brachiocephalic artery stenoses were treated.
