Abstract On 2 May 2025, an Mw 7.4 earthquake occurred ∼120 km off the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego, at the transition of the Shackleton Fracture Zone and the Chile Trench. This event exhibits reverse‐faulting mechanisms with relatively steeply dipping planes and is the largest recorded along this complex plate boundary.

Fine slab structure and mechanism of deep earthquakes beneath central Japan
Deep-focus earthquakes (> 300 km depth) are widely distributed in global subduction zones, but their mechanism is still debated because the fine structure of deep subducting slabs is unclear.

Melt Production and Volatile Release From Thermochemical Mantle Plumes
Abstract Mantle plumes are thought to generate Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs), the largest outpourings of lava in the geologic record, which are associated with long‐lasting climatic warming events and mass extinctions. However, the controls on mantle degassing by plumes remain poorly constrained.

Abstract Ground deformation of dormant volcanoes provides critical insights into subsurface processes and potential hazards. Here we present Sentinel‐1 Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series (2015–2020) for Changbaishan volcano, the largest intraplate volcanic system in East Asia. We detect persistent subsidence of up to 3.5 mm/yr

Nonlinear response of SDOF systems to intraplate earthquakes
It is well established that there are characteristics differences between intraplate and interplate earthquakes. A parametric study of SDOF systems indicates that there is also consistent differences in structural response to intraplate earthquakes ...

Abstract Intraplate volcanism in Northeast Asia, located in a distant back‐arc setting, challenges conventional models of mantle convection and volatile cycling. Using receiver function data from over 300 broadband stations, we image the mantle transition zone (MTZ) beneath the Changbaishan/Paektu volcano.

Heard Island, an active sub-Antarctic intraplate volcanic island on the Kerguelen Plateau, is mostly covered by glaciers. The amphitheatre shaped summit of the active volcanic centre, Big Ben (2813 m), has been interpreted to be the product of a ...

Automatic GNSS Coordinate Time Series Analysis for Very Large Networks
Abstract We present a new algorithm, AutoCF, for automatically constructing coordinate functions (CFs) for continuously operating GNSS reference stations (CORSs). The iterative algorithm alternates between application of LASSO and Ridge Regression methods, with hyperparameters successively tightened with each iteration to more judiciously scrutinize ...

Geodynamic Significance of Intraplate Basaltic Magmatism From the Western Mediterranean Region
Abstract Dynamic topography changes as mantle convection evolves, making its past surface expression difficult to reconstruct. Widespread Neogene‐Quaternary intraplate basaltic magmatism across the Western Mediterranean Region allows us to test whether dated basalts preserve the mantle thermal structure responsible for regional dynamic support.
