Intraspeaker variability on nasal consonant [m]
Our previous study determined that intraspeaker variability is small for the first formant of the nasal/m/when read in a carrier sentence and larger when read in a paragraph.

On the relationship between alternative variational formulations of a frictional contact model [PDF]
We consider a frictional contact model, mathematically described by means of a nonlinear boundary value problem in terms of PDE. We draw the attention to three possible variational formulations of it. One of the variational formulations is a variational inequality of the second kind and the other two are mixed variational formulations with Lagrange ...

Jane Lynch and /s/: The Effect of Addressee Sexuality on Fricative Realization
Although there has been a sizeable amount of work on the speech of gay men (e.g., Podesva 2007), there has been little to no research on gay or bisexual women, whether interspeaker or intraspeaker.

The Influence of Aspects of Social Identity on the Development of L2 Phonology
Over time, second language (L2) speech production changes as the learner gains more experience with the language. Factors such as interaction with native speakers of the learner’s L2 are known to play an important role.

Expected Regularized Total Variation of Brownian Motion [PDF]
We introduce a notion of regularized total variation on an interval for continuous functions with unbounded variation. The definition of regularized total variation is obtained from that of total variation by subtracting a penalty for the size of the partition used to estimate the variation.

This is the first volume of Lifespans & Styles: Undergraduate Working Papers on Intraspeaker Variation . The journal was inspired by the fact that, while many undergraduates produce exceptional scholarship, most do not get an opportunity to share their ...

The Young and the Old: (t) Release in Elderspeak
Elderspeak refers to a speech style used when talking to the elderly. The aim of this study was to find out whether a higher rate of standard phonetic variants of phonemes is a feature of elderspeak.

Total Variation and Variational Symplectic-Energy-Momentum integrators [PDF]
A discrete total variation calculus with variable time steps is presented in this letter. Using this discrete variation calculus, we generalize Lee's discrete mechanics and derive variational symplectic-energy-momentum integrators by Kane, Marsden and Ortiz.

On the solution of monotone nested variational inequalities [PDF]
We study nested variational inequalities, which are variational inequalities whose feasible set is the solution set of another variational inequality. We present a projected averaging Tikhonov algorithm requiring the weakest conditions in the literature to guarantee the convergence to solutions of the nested variational inequality.

Changes in Code-Switching Patterns among Hindi-English Bilinguals in Northern India
This study investigates changes in code-switching (CS) patterns among Hindi-English bilinguals in Northern India. There is a dearth of studies of naturalistic Hindi-English CS, which this study attempts to address.
