Performance of copper intrauterine devices when inserted after an expulsion
Human Reproduction, 1995A total of 124 women who re-inserted a TCu-200B intrauterine device (IUD) following an expulsion were followed up for 1 year after the IUD re-insertion. The cumulative expulsion rate at 6 months was 21.7 and 31.4 per 100 women at the end of the first year.

Insertion technique, not design, affects expulsion rates of postpartum intrauterine device
Contraception, 1984A Lippes type intrauterine device (IUD) was modified to be used for immediate postpartum insertion. In 114 patients in whom the modified IUD was inserted immediately after delivery, expulsion rates at six months averaged approximately 30%. Expulsion rates were significantly different, at p less than 0.05, for women in whom the IUD was inserted ...

Postplacental intrauterine device expulsion by 12 weeks: a prospective cohort study
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2017An intrauterine device placed immediately following a delivery can serve as an effective and safe contraceptive strategy in the postpartum period. There is limited evidence that the levonorgestrel intrauterine system may have a higher rate of expulsion compared to the copper intrauterine device; however, rates of expulsion for these 2 intrauterine ...
