Positive Remodeling as a Biomarker of Plaque Vulnerability — at the Border Between Invasive and Noninvasive Assessment

open access: yesJournal of Interdisciplinary Medicine, 2017
Since the introduction of the new concepts of plaque vulnerability and patient vulnerability, many researchers have focused on different biomarkers that can represent predictors for coronary plaque instability.

Metal–Organic Frameworks: Unlocking New Frontiers in Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), are composed of metal ions and bridging organic ligands, are recognized as an excellent platform for host‐gust chemistry. Its rich structural composition, modifiable sites, and multilevel pore distribution can provide delivery and release of signaling molecules, probes, and therapeutic drugs, which exhibit great medical

Segmentation of Lumen and External Elastic Laminae in Intravascular Ultrasound Images using Ultrasonic Backscattering Physics Initialized Multiscale Random Walks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Coronary artery disease accounts for a large number of deaths across the world and clinicians generally prefer using x-ray computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging for localizing vascular pathologies. Interventional imaging modalities like intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) are used to adjunct diagnosis of atherosclerotic plaques in vessels, and ...

CCDC80 Protects against Aortic Dissection and Rupture by Maintaining the Contractile Smooth Muscle Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Aortic dissection (AD) is accompanied by a decrease in CCDC80 in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). CCDC80 can interact with JAK2, and VSMC‐specific CCDC80 deficiency accelerates the progression of AD by activating the JAK2/STAT3 pathway involved in regulating the phenotype switching and function of VSMCs.

Survival intravascular photoacoustic imaging of lipid‐rich plaque in cholesterol fed rabbits

open access: yesTranslational Biophotonics, Volume 4, Issue 4, December 2022., 2022
Early identification of vulnerable plaques in vivo can have a positive impact on guiding the treatment of cardiovascular disease. In this work, Ji‐Xin Cheng and coworkers demonstrate survival intravascular photoacoustic imaging of lipid‐laden plaques in live cholesterol‐fed rabbits.

Aneurysmal degeneration of fluoropolymer-coated paclitaxel-eluting stent in the superficial femoral artery: a rising concern

open access: yesCVIR Endovascular, 2021
Background Although several clinical reports demonstrated a durable patency rate after a novel fluoropolymer-coated paclitaxel-eluting stent (Eluvia; Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA) placement, aneurysmal degeneration after drug-eluting stent ...

Intravascular ultrasound chirp imaging

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2012
We demonstrate the feasibility of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) chirp imaging as well as chirp reversal ultrasound contrast imaging at intravascular ultrasound frequency. Chirp excitations were emitted with a 34 MHz single crystal intravascular transducer and compared to conventional Gaussian-shaped pulses of equal acoustic pressure.

Unique angiographic findings in a patient with myocardial ischemia and immunoglobulin G4-related disease

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2017
Immunoglobulin G4-related disease characteristically involves multiple organs including the heart and coronary arteries. Immunoglobulin G4-related coronary artery disease is thought to be due to periarteritis and histopathologically is characterized by ...

Coronary Intravascular Ultrasound

open access: yesMicroscopy and Microanalysis, 1997
Abstract For several decades, contrast angiography has served as the principal imaging modality used to assess the anatomic severity of coronary artery disease. Recent technical advances in acoustics and microelectonics have permitted development and refinement of miniaturized ultrasound devices capable of real-time tomographic coronary ...

Mesenteric thrombosis: An unusual complication of severe acute pancreatitis—Report of two cases

open access: yesAdvances in Digestive Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract The incidence of acute pancreatitis is 34 per 100 000 people in the general population and is on the rise. Approximately 15% to 20% of all patients experience severe pancreatitis, with a mortality rate nearing 20%. This condition is often linked to vascular complications, although mesenteric thrombosis is a rare presentation.
