Compliant hydrogel cuff coating with real‐time pressure monitoring and antibiofilm capabilities for ventilator‐associated pneumonia prophylaxis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A soft‐compliant hydrogel cuff coating combines real‐time pressure monitoring with intrinsic antibacterial activity for prophylaxis of ventilator‐associated pneumonia. A flexible pressure‐sensing patch is embedded in the coating to enable wireless dynamic monitoring of endotracheal cuff pressure through Bluetooth.

Impact of the I-DECIDED Tool to Improve Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Care in Paediatrics: Interrupted Time-Series Study

open access: yes
Aim To determine whether the I-DECIDED assessment and decision tool enhances peripheral intravenous catheter assessment, care and decision-making in paediatrics. Design Quasi-experimental, interrupted time-series study.

Skin colonization at peripheral intravenous catheter insertion sites increases the risk of catheter colonization and infection

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) break the skin barrier, and preinsertion antiseptic disinfection and sterile dressings are used to reduce risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI).

Hyperbranched poly‐L‐lysine surface‐engineered bioprosthetic heart valves with anti‐calcification, anti‐infection, and durability

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The challenges of bioprosthetic heart valves (BHV) with respect to calcification, infection, and poor durability are tackled by surface engineering of hyperbranched poly‐L‐lysine (HBPL), providing a translational solution to improve long‐term valve performance.

Engineered immunostimulatory H2O2‐producing microreactors driven by yeast as localized living cancer therapeutics

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Engineered yeast microreactors that produce H2O2 within tumors enable selective cancer cell killing while releasing immunostimulatory components, effectively suppressing local tumor growth and activating systemic antitumor immunity, with further efficacy enhanced by anti‐PD‐1 therapy and transarterial embolization.

Application of intravenous electrocardiography for insertion of central veins dialysis catheters

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2009
One fifth of the inserted dialysis catheters in the internal jugular or subclavian veins may be misplaced. Appropriate positioning of the catheter tip is sometimes difficult. We attempted to use intravenous electrocardiography (ECG) to guide catheter tip

Long peripheral catheter replacement through the guidewire in a patient with arteriovenous fistula and inadvertent catheter placement in a perforator – a case report

open access: yesPielęgniarstwo Chirurgiczne i Angiologiczne
The intravenous therapy planned by the team determines its duration and the type of solutions administered to the vascular access device. In choosing an appropriate vascular access, patients with chronic kidney disease are a special group.

Clinical Anatomy of the Left and Right Atrial Appendages in Humans: Comparative and Developmental Perspective

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human atrial chambers derive from distinct embryonic anlagens, the original embryonic atria gradually transforming into the so‐called auricles, or atrial appendages. This study quantifies macroscopic variations in pectinate muscle architecture in human atrial appendages and evaluates their visualization using clinical imaging modalities.

Calcified Plaque Detachment: Alternative Calcified Plaque Modification After Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Calcified plaque (CP) detachment (CD) and calcium fracture (CF) can occur following coronary intravascular lithotripsy (IVL). The extent to which CF alone facilitates stent expansion during CP modification with IVL remains unclear. Aims This study aimed to investigate the clinical implications of IVL‐induced CD.

Infection prevention: Peripheral intravenous catheter assessment and care

open access: yes, 2017
Peripheral intravenous catheters are the most common device in hospital patients, but they do come with infection risks. Awareness of the complications and regular assessment can reduce risks and improve patient outcomes. No Full ...
