Regional anaesthesia for awake urgent upper limb surgery in children: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Peripheral regional anaesthesia is used rarely as the sole anaesthetic technique in children and is often combined with deep sedation or general anaesthesia for analgesic purposes. No literature addresses the minimum age at which regional anaesthesia can be considered to facilitate awake surgery in children.

Perioperative Mechanical Circulatory Support for Cardiac Assistance in Thoracic Surgery: A Scoping Review

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
High‐risk cardiac patients may benefit from timely temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) implantation to provide perioperative hemodynamic stabilization and circulatory support, thus enabling them to undergo life‐saving thoracic surgery. CPB: cardiopulmonary bypass; IABP: intra‐aortic balloon pump; tMCS: temporary mechanical circulatory ...

Incidence of complications from perioperative urinary catheterisation in horses

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Catheterisation of the urinary bladder is a common procedure during perioperative care of horses. Benefits of urinary catheters include a reduction in the risk of recovery‐associated slip hazards as a consequence of voided urine and the measurement of urine output during anaesthesia.

An antisense oligonucleotide targeting the heat‐shock protein HSPB5 as an innovative therapeutic approach in pulmonary fibrosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal disease characterized by fibroblast activation and abnormal accumulation of extracellular matrix in the lungs. We previously demonstrated the importance of the heat shock protein αB‐crystallin (HSPB5) in TGF‐β1 profibrotic signalling, which suggests that HSPB5 could be a new ...
