Intrinsic structure of minimal discs in metric spaces [PDF]

open access: yesGeometry & Topology, 2017
We study the intrinsic structure of parametric minimal discs in metric spaces admitting a quadratic isoperimetric inequality. We associate to each minimal disc a compact, geodesic metric space whose geometric, topological, and analytic properties are controlled by the isoperimetric inequality.

Breaking the color-reddening degeneracy in type Ia supernovae

open access: yes, 2016
A new method to study the intrinsic color and luminosity of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is presented. A metric space built using principal component analysis (PCA) on spectral series SNe Ia between -12.5 and +17.5 days from B maximum is used as a set of ...

P-Cyclic C-Contraction Result in Menger Spaces Using a Control Function

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2016
The intrinsic flexibility of probabilistic metric spaces makes it possible to extend the idea of contraction mapping in several inequivalent ways, one of which being the C-contraction. Cyclic contractions are another type of contractions used extensively

On the holomorphic curvature of some intrinsic metrics [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1977
If G is a hyperbolic manifold in the sense of Kobayashi and the differential Kobayashi metric K G {K_G} is of class C 2 {C^2} , then the holomorphic curvature of K G {K_G} is greater than or ...

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Intrinsic Properties of Finsler Space with a cubic change in Infinite Series Metric [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hyperstructures
In this paper, we investigate a Finsler space characterized by a cubic changed infinite series metric given by F(γ, β)=β2/(β-γ_. We derive the fundamental tensors necessary to describe the geometric properties of this Finsler space.

Efficient Information-Theoretic Large-Scale Semi-Supervised Metric Learning via Proxies

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Semi-supervised metric learning intends to learn a distance function from the limited labeled data as well as a large amount of unlabeled data to better gauge the similarities of any two instances than using a general distance function.

An Adaptive Management Model for Brown Bears in Hokkaido: Based on Total Population and the Number of Nuisance Bears

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Bear management changes management actions according to the horizontal axis of the population size and the vertical axis of the number of nuisance bears. Aiming for the target population size of Ntar, Actions I and II protect the bears, and Action IV reduces the population.

Geodesics in Asymmetric Metric Spaces

open access: yesAnalysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces, 2014
In a recent paper [17] we studied asymmetric metric spaces; in this context we studied the length of paths, introduced the class of run-continuous paths; and noted that there are different definitions of “length spaces” (also known as “path-metric spaces”
