Torsion of Cylinders With Shape Intrinsic Orthotropy
Journal of Applied Mechanics, Transactions ASME, 1987Shape intrinsic orthotropy may be thought of as the type of elastic material symmetry possessed by the wood tissue of a tree. Each year’s new growth rings form a laminate around a central core. The axes of material symmetry lie in the directions tangent and normal to the growth rings or laminates and along the axis of the cylinder.

Intrinsic internal friction in solids measured by torsion pendulums
Journal Physics D: Applied Physics, 1982A mechanical theory is developed for composite torsion pendulums emphasising the interaction between components. The interaction is eliminated to obtain the intrinsic internal friction in solids. A definition of internal friction is given in a general form as a function of frequency and the moment of inertia.

Intrinsic torsional viscosity of nematic liquid crystals
Physical Review Letters, 1990A nematic liquid-crystal cylinder may exhibit metastable cholesteric-type twisted states in which the director uniformly rotates along the sample in the plane orthogonal to the cylinder axis. If a constant torque is maintained by strongly anchoring end plates, thermal fluctuations can produce rotation, leading to torsionally viscous behavior.

Intrinsic torsional reorientations in a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell
Physical Review E, 2005The nature of the orientational relaxation process of the director n to its equilibrium orientation neq, in the twisted nematic cell, under the influence of an external electric field, is investigated. The influence of the electric, elastic, and viscous torques on the dynamics of the director is reflected in the relaxation of the director n to neq ...

Intrinsic Torsional Potential Parameters for Conformational Analysis of Peptides and Proteins
The Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1996New sets of intrinsic torsional parameters, obtained by fitting to experimental and/or theoretical values of torsional barriers and relative conformational energies of various uncharged model organic compounds, are presented. They are intended for use in conformational energy computations on peptides and proteins.
