The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Influence of different nature cardiotonic medicines on the cytokine system of failing myocardium atthe pressure overload conditions in experimental animals

open access: yesКубанский научный медицинский вестник, 2015
In the work the efficacy of influence of cardiotonic drugs on the cytokine system changes in the response to acute maximal myocardial pressure overload in congestive heart failure (HF) animals was study in controlled randomized trial.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Efficacy of different cardiotonic drug on severity of endotoxemia under heart failure coupled with systemic inflammatory syndrome in experiments

open access: yesКубанский научный медицинский вестник, 2015
On the model of systemic inflammatory response syndrome caused by toxi-allergic myocarditis 10-day duration in rabbits the efficacy of 5 days (beginning after 5 days from the injection of staphylococcus toxins) administration of the various ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

LiZn/LiAlO2/Li2O‐Derived Chemical Confinement Enabling Hierarchical and Oriented Li Plating/Stripping

open access: yesCarbon Energy
ZnO with good lithiophilicity has widely been employed to modify the lithiophobic substrates and facilitate uniform lithium (Li) deposition. The overpotential of ZnO‐derived Li anode during cycling depends on the lithiophilicity of both LiZn and Li2O ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
