Background Rice in tropical and sub-tropical areas is often subjected to cold stress at the seedling stage, resulting in poor growth and yield loss. Although japonica rice is generally more cold tolerant (CT) than indica rice, there are several favorable

Road mortality mitigation for red wolves requires a landscape approach
In 1980, the red wolf Canis rufus was declared extinct in the wild. However, starting in 1987, a captive breeding program allowed for a reintroduction effort in and around Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge (Alligator River NWR), North Carolina, USA. In 2012 the wild red wolf population peaked at about 120 individuals.

Biology, ecology, and conservation of the Italian hare Lepus corsicanus: a review
The Italian hare Lepus corsicanus, an endemic lagomorph of Italy, serves as a critical case study in evolutionary biology and conservation. Once taxonomically debated, modern genetic and morphological analyses confirm its status as a distinct Pleistocene lineage restricted to the central‐southern Italian Peninsula and Sicily.

Using Whole Genome Sequencing to Decipher the Metschnikowia pulcherrima Complex
ABSTRACT Metschnikowia pulcherrima, an ascomycetous yeast, has been frequently isolated from various substrates associated with agriculture such as nutrient‐rich plant materials (fruit, fruit juices and fermenting grape must), soil and with various insects including fruit flies.

Introgressions from Oryza rufipogon Increase Photosynthetic Efficiency of KMR3 Rice Lines
To understand the wild Oryza genome effect on photosynthesis and its relation to total dry matter accumulation in an elite rice variety, a set of 40 stable introgression lines (ILs) BC3F8 derived from a cross of Oryza sativa (KMR3) × Oryza rufipogon ...

Modelling introgression using parent trees.
Parent trees represent the possible histories of speciation and/or introgression at a locus, with their probabilities determined by the rate of introgression.

Evidence of parental care as a newly identified reproductive isolating barrier
Behavioural variation can contribute to reproductive isolation and can be an important driver of speciation. Here, we show that a previously undescribed mechanism, parental care, can function as a postzygotic reproductive isolating barrier when dysregulated in hybrids.

Leaf wax n-alkanes are broadly used to reconstruct paleoenvironmental information. However, the utility of n-alkanes as a paleoenvironmental proxy may be modulated by the extent to which biological as well as environmental factors influence the ...

This article presents a synthesis of recent developments in the study of human evolution over the past five years. It begins with an overview of hominin species nomenclature and diversity, followed by an examination of the proposed population bottleneck ∼900,000 years ago.
