Parental involvement and engagement during COVID‐19 lockdowns: School staff and parents' reflections about children's learning at home

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Valuing parental engagement, as part of home–school collaboration, can benefit children's learning. This article focuses on parents and school‐based staff's (N = 120) experiences of children's learning occurring at home during the COVID‐19 lockdowns (2020–2021), both school‐mandated and other learning activities.

The influence of rivers on seabird foraging ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rivers act as vital arteries to the world's oceans, delivering fresh water and nutrients that sustain marine ecosystems. Globally, river flow increasingly is being altered by climate change and anthropogenic pressures; yet the significance of rivers to predatory marine species, such as seabirds, and the extent to which river‐related changes ...

Medical Management of Problematic Sexual Arousal for People With a Sexual Conviction in England and Wales: Challenges, Learning and Progress

open access: yesCriminal Behaviour and Mental Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background In England and Wales, the primary treatments for individuals convicted of sexual offences are psychological. However, medication to manage problematic sexual arousal (MMPSA) is gaining importance as an alternative. This article reviews the current evidence surrounding the MMPSA approach.

Metasurface Enhanced Photothermal Cement Foam for Robust and High‐Throughput Seawater Desalination

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Schematic of 3D metasurface‐enhanced cement foam for robust and high‐throughput seawater desalination. This study presents a cement‐based solar evaporator (CSE) fabricated in one step via viscoelastic lithography with simple negative pressure. In addition to boosting solar‐to‐vapor conversion efficiency via excellent light‐harvesting capacity, the ...

The effects of rumination on mood and intrusive memories after exposure to traumatic material: An experimental study

open access: yesJournal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, 2009
Correlational studies have shown that trauma-related rumination predicts chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study aimed to experimentally test the hypothesis that rumination is causally involved in the development and maintenance of PTSD symptoms. A video depicting the aftermath of serious road traffic accidents was used as an analogue

Application of Ultrasonic Sensors for Determining the Height of Dynamic Two‐Phase Layers in Tray Columns

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Ultrasonic sensors are evaluated for their applicability in dynamic gas–liquid systems. By comparing sensor data with two independent optical reference methods, their robustness and reliability are demonstrated under varying flow conditions and tray geometries in column systems.

Negative emotional events that people ruminate about feel closer in time.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Rumination is intrusive, perseverative cognition. We suggest that one psychological consequence of ruminating about negative emotional events is that the events feel as though they happened metaphorically "just yesterday".

The role of rumination and metamemory beliefs in posttraumatic growth and posttraumatic stress

open access: yesDiscover Psychology
The risk of developing posttraumatic stress symptoms following exposure to traumatic events is well documented, however, emerging research also lends support to the potential development of growth in some people.
