A Novel Bioabsorbable Covered Stent for Advancing Bile Duct Injury Management: A Preclinical Study in a Porcine Model (With Video)

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Self‐expandable metallic and plastic stents have been used for biliary tract injuries, but they are not entirely adequate as treatments. This study investigated the potential of our novel self‐expandable bioabsorbable covered stent (SEBCS) to treat bile duct injuries. We developed a novel SEBCS by covering a self‐expandable bioabsorbable stent

Routine omission of nasogastric intubation after gastrointestinal surgery.

open access: yesCanadian journal of surgery. Journal canadien de chirurgie, 1993
The need for routine nasogastric-tube decompression after gastrointestinal surgery has been challenged repeatedly for several years. To determine whether nasogastric intubation can be omitted routinely, 101 consecutive patients who underwent gastrointestinal surgery were managed prospectively without nasogastric tubes.

Who Needs Endoscopic Removal of Food Residue From the Esophagus Before Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy for Esophageal Achalasia and Esophagogastric Junction Outflow Obstruction?

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is an established treatment for esophageal achalasia. Despite favorable outcomes, the risk of reflux aspiration during general anesthesia induction in POEM remains a concern. This study aimed to identify the risk factors for food residue in the esophagus before POEM and evaluate the necessity of ...

Efficacy and Safety of Gel Immersion Endoscopic Mucosal Resection for Gastric Neoplasms in Patients With Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Approximately 10%–30% patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) develop gastric neoplasms (GNs). Although recent reports have suggested the effectiveness of gel‐immersion endoscopic mucosal resection (GI‐EMR) for FAP‐associated GNs, given its simplicity and safety, treatment outcomes for such lesions have not been evaluated.

A Prospective Observational Study of Intraoperative Regional Cerebral Desaturation and Negative Postoperative Behavioural Changes After Non‐Cardiac Paediatric Surgery

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 69, Issue 10, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Negative postoperative behaviour changes (NPOBC) are known to occur after general anaesthesia in children. A significantly increased risk of NPOBC has been reported in children who exhibited a reduction in cerebral regional oxygen saturation (crSO2) of as little as 5% below baseline levels.

Real‐World Therapeutic Hypothermia for Neonatal HIE: Neurodevelopmental Outcomes and Predictors

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 114, Issue 11, Page 2874-2884, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim This study assessed neurodevelopmental outcomes in neonates with hypoxic‐ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) treated with therapeutic hypothermia (TH) outside randomised controlled trials (RCTs). It also aimed to identify predictors of outcomes and evaluate TH practices across centres.

Changes in microcirculation variables in an acute endotoxaemic equine model

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 6, Page 1623-1634, November 2025.
Abstract Background Microcirculation is the essential link between macrocirculation and cellular metabolism. Objectives To test our hypotheses that microcirculation variables will show a heterogeneous flow pattern during experimental endotoxaemia, and that fluid therapy and noradrenaline (NA) infusion will normalise altered microcirculation variables ...
