Management of post-intubation tracheal membrane ruptures: A practical approach

open access: yesIndian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2013
Tracheal rupture is an infrequent, severe complication of endotracheal intubation, which can be difficult to diagnose. Post-intubation tracheal rupture (PiTR) is distinct from non-iatrogenic causes of tracheobronchial trauma and often requires different ...

Use, timing and factors associated with tracheal intubation in septic shock: a prospective multicentric observational study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care, 2020
Background No recommendation exists about the timing and setting for tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation in septic shock. Patients and methods This prospective multicenter observational study was conducted in 30 ICUs in France and Spain.

Error Traps in Pediatric Neuromuscular Block

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromuscular blocking agents are essential for safe pediatric anesthesia but remain a frequent source of preventable morbidity when misused, inadequately monitored, or incompletely reversed. Children, particularly neonates and infants, are especially vulnerable to residual neuromuscular block due to developmental pharmacological ...

Outcome of surgical treatment for proximal long segment post intubation tracheal stenosis

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2013
BackgroundPost intubation long segment tracheal stenosis is a serious problem which usually requires multiple methods of treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of surgical treatment in long segment post intubation tracheal stenosis ...

A prospective, observational, cohort study of airway management of patients with COVID-19 by specialist tracheal intubation teams

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anesthesia/Journal canadien d'anesthésie, 2020
Because of the anticipated surge in cases requiring intensive care unit admission, the high aerosol-generating risk of tracheal intubation, and the specific requirements in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients, a dedicated Mobile Endotracheal Rapid ...

Comparison of Different Neostigmine Doses for Reversal of Cisatracurium‐Induced Neuromuscular Block in Children Under Total Intravenous Anesthesia: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neostigmine is widely used to reverse nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockade in children, but the optimal dose under total intravenous anesthesia is uncertain. Aims The primary aim was to compare the time to full neuromuscular recovery (TOF ratio of 1.0) following administration of neostigmine at doses of 0, 10, 20, and 30 μg/kg in ...

How to predict difficult tracheal intubation: The application of acromio-axillo-suprasternal notch index

open access: yesAdvanced Biomedical Research, 2020
Background: The incidence of difficult laryngoscopy or tracheal intubation is high, which needs a method to predict the difficulty of tracheal intubation to decrease the rate of complications.

Prediction of difficult tracheal intubation

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1994
Three hundred and fifty consecutive patients (322 non-obstetric, 28 obstetric; 185 female) were assessed before operation using the modified Mallampati test and by measuring thyromental and sternomental distances, forward protrusion of the mandible and interincisor gap with the mouth fully open.

Tracheal dilatation complicating prolonged tracheal intubation [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1997
A patient with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring prolonged tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation is described. Tracheal dilatation was noted to have occurred following an elective surgical tracheostomy. Eventually, the patient was successfully weaned from mechanical ventilation and the tracheostomy tube removed.
