Plants used for hedging in Patagonian cities: an ethnobotanical contribution to conservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Los cercos vivos son parte significativa del paisaje de las ciudades de la Patagonia y pueden ser muy importantes no sólo como reservorios de biodiversidad sino también como posibles fuentes de invasiones. En este trabajo se estimó la riqueza de especies,

Coyote Range Expansion in the Human‐Modified Tropics of Mesoamerica

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Coyotes have expanded their range into southeastern Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, increasingly occupying human‐modified landscapes. This expansion is ongoing, with rising detection rates over time and records in both disturbed and forested environments, highlighting a paradox where anthropogenic change enables native carnivore expansion.

Physiology–microhabitat matching may help organisms cope with the thermal and hydric challenges under climate change: a tale of two lizards

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 3, March 2026.
Climate change is significantly affecting biodiversity, and organisms that depend on external temperature – such as ectotherms – are particularly vulnerable to these effects. Microhabitats provide refuge for species, thereby reducing exposure to thermal and hydric stress under climate change.

Formigues invasores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Un dels aspectes importants en la comprensió de les invasions biològiques és l'estudi dels patrons de l'expansió d'una espècie, tant en el temps com en l'espai.

Influence of Basis Set Composition on Metabolite Quantification of 1H‐MRS at 3 T: Combining In Silico, In Vivo and In Vitro Evidence

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, March 2026.
We use synthetic (Aim 1), human brain (Aim 2) and phantom (Aim 3) data to assess how basis set choice affects Glu, tCr, tNAA and tCho quantification, focusing on the bias–variance trade‐off under varying SNR conditions. Including GABA, GSH, NAAG and glucose improved Glu estimates, reducing bias and variance below 10%.

Unveiling Shell Geometry: Morphometric Differences Between the Invasive Mussel Perna viridis and the Native Perna perna

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 1, March 2026.
Perna viridis is an invasive mussel species recently introduced to the southeastern coast of Brazil, where it coexists with the native Perna perna. Morphological similarity between these species, particularly in early life stages, has led to frequent misidentifications, compromising ecological assessments and management efforts.
