Mitogenomic insights into the population structure and demographic history of zig-zag eels (Mastacembelus armatus) in southern China

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Understanding the genetic diversity and population structure of both wild and cultured fish populations is essential for developing effective conservation strategies and enhancing artificial breeding practices in aquaculture.

Discovery of an Adaptive Neuroimmune Response Driving Itch and Fast Tick Removal with Implications for Preventing Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Doehl et al. discovered an adaptive neuroimmune mechanism that induces itch in tick‐exposed guinea pigs, enabling rapid tick removal. This itch‐induced tick removal (IITR) is mediated by an adaptive cellular immune response and is independent of IgG, IgE, or TRPV1.

Effects of canopy gap size on recruitment and invasion of the non-indigenous Rubus alceifolius in lowland tropical rain forest on Réunion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An important challenge of invasion biology is to understand how interactions between species traits and ecosystem properties enable alien species to become invasive at particular locations.

Pan2‐Pan3 Complex‐Mediated Deadenylation Enforces mRNA Quality Control for Infection of the Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Discovery that deadenylation, rather than transcription, acts as the rate‐limiting step for developmental timing in a plant pathogen. Evidence that P‐body integrity and mRNA decay are mechanistically coupled to rapid cellular differentiation under environmental stress. Identification of Pan2‐Pan3 as a pathogen‐specific “meta‐virulence factor” absent in

Reference genome provide insights into sex determination of silver aworana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)

open access: yesBMC Biology
Background Silver arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is a basal fish species with sexual monomorphism, while its sex determination mechanism has been poorly understood, posing a significant challenge to its captive breeding efforts.
