Early Radiation Therapy Response Assessment Using Multi‐Scale Photoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tomographic and mesoscopic photoacoustics capture intratumoural features of radioresistance and response. ABSTRACT There is a critical unmet clinical need to identify biomarkers that predict and detect radiation therapy (RT) response in cancer. Using the unique capabilities of multi‐scale photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to depict tumor oxygenation and ...

Non-invasive ventilation [PDF]

open access: yesThorax, 2002
Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) has been shown to be of benefit in the treatment of decompensated respiratory acidosis due to an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).1–3 The reduction in the need for intubation and in mortality offered by this treatment make it at least a useful initial therapy …

Association between serum calcium levels and the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation in COPD: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundDisturbances in serum calcium levels have been associated with poor prognosis in various diseases. However, research regarding the relationship between serum calcium and the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic ...

Noninvasive assessment of inspiratory muscle neuromechanical coupling during inspiratory threshold loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Diaphragm neuromechanical coupling (NMC), which reflects the efficiency of conversion of neural activation to transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi), is increasingly recognized to be a useful clinical index of diaphragm function and respiratory mechanics in ...

Single‐Cell Metabolic Imaging and Digital Scoring of Fat Tissue Remodeling by Label‐Free Metabolic Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mid‐infrared optoacoustic microscopy (MiROM) acquires lipid‐ and protein‐ associated vibrational contrast in intact fat tissue without dyes, preserving native tissue architecture. Through lateral and axial segmentation, MiROM tracks intrinsic intracellular changes during postnatal remodeling. A quantitative spatial analysis tool (Q‐SAT) maps white‐ and

KCNJ2 is Required for NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation That Drives Allergic Airway Inflammation and Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the potassium channel KCNJ2 on asthma development. KCNJ2 promotes NLRP3 inflammasome activation through both Ca2+ influx and K+ efflux in airway epithelial cells, which drives allergic airway inflammation and remodeling, suggesting a promising therapeutic target for asthma.
