Semeadura direta para restaurar savanas neotropicais

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2022
Restaurações de savanas neotropicais são muitas vezes realizadas de forma inadequada, desconsiderando características ecológicas dessas vegetações. Ameaçadas pela conversão para atividades agrícolas e introdução de espécies invasoras, a conservação ...

Retrospective image analysis for long‐term demography using Google Earth imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that high‐resolution Google Earth imagery, combined with minimal field validation, enables retrospective tracking of individual invasive plants. The image shows one of the monitored individuals of Opuntia sp. in Greece. Our approach reveals long‐term demographic patterns, recruitment dynamics, and spatial expansion without continuous ...

Biology of the Gall Midge Spanolepis selloanae (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae), a Candidate Biological Control Agent of the Invasive Grass Cortaderia selloana

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Spanolepis selloanae (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) infests Cortaderia selloana (pampas grass). It lays eggs in the spikelets, where larvae feed on female parts. The high prevalence of the midge and its combined impact in seed production, condition and viability strongly reduces the reproductive output of C. selloana.

Plantas acuáticas invasoras presentes en Chile: Distribución, rasgos de vida y potencial invasor

open access: yesGayana: Botanica, 2017
Las invasiones biológicas son reconocidas como una de las mayores causas de pérdida de la biodiversidad. Si bien los procesos de invasión se dan tanto en ambientes terrestres como en acuáticos, son los ecosistemas límnicos particularmente sensibles a ...

Polymorphism of CaCO3 and microstructure of the shell of a Brazilian invasive mollusc (Limnoperna fortunei) [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2014
Applying the theories of Materials Science and Engineering to describe the composition and hierarchy of microstructures that comprise biological systems could help the search for new materials and results in a deeper insight into evolutionary processes ...

Mosquito population dynamics are shaped by interactions among larval density, temperature, and relative humidity

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Understanding how variation in key abiotic and biotic factors interact at ecologically relevant spatial scales is crucial for predicting population dynamics, distributions, and abundances. This is especially true for vectors that transmit human pathogens.

geohabnet: An R package for mapping habitat connectivity for biosecurity and conservation

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 2862-2872, October 2026.
Abstract Habitat connectivity is critical for the conservation of endangered and endemic species, and conversely, it can hinder efforts to contain the spread of harmful biological agents. Here, we introduce geohabnet: a general, spatially explicit, network‐based R package for evaluating, estimating and mapping landscape connectivity from continuous ...

Impacts of Species Introductions on the Trait Diversity of Interacting Avian Frugivores and Fleshy‐Fruited Plants Depend on Native Trait Diversity

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim The introduction of non‐native species to native ecological communities by humans is a major driver of global biodiversity change. Studying how species introductions influence interacting species is essential to understanding possible functional consequences of global change because biotic interactions are ecologically crucial.
