Mesoporous Silica Microspheres by Super‐Fast Alkaline Etching of Micrometer‐Sized Stöber Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale silica particles are prepared along with a modified, scalable Stöber synthesis using the continuous addition of tetraethoxy silane to an ethanolic solution of ammonia with KCl. Etching with hydroxide ions at 95 °C gave porous analogs within minutes. Monodisperse particles are isolable in high yield after precipitation in ethanol.

Evaluating the German Inventory Cycle Using Data from the Ifo Business Survey [PDF]

open access: yes
Inventory fluctuations are an important phenomenon in business cycles. However, the preliminary data on inventory investment as published in the German national accounts are tremendously prone to revision and therefore ill-equipped to diagnose the ...

Toughness of Confined Auxetic Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Auxetic (negative Poisson's ratio) materials offer benefits such as impact mitigation, thermal insulation, vibration damping, and reduced shear strain, although their fracture mechanics are largely unexplored. This study investigates damage initiation and propagation in confined re‐entrant auxetic foams from polyurethane via experimental ...

3D Bioprinting of Thick Adipose Tissues with Integrated Vascular Hierarchies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
An advanced 3D bioprinting technique is used here to create thick adipose tissues with a central, vessel and extensive branching. The construct is made using alginate, gelatin and collagen‐based bioinks. Flow through the complex vessel network is demonstrated as well as its successful integration with a femoral artery following implantation in a rat ...

Completing 3D point clouds of individual trees using deep learning

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
In close‐range remote sensing data collected in a forest, occlusion often causes incomplete or sparse point cloud representations of individual trees, impeding accurate 3D reconstruction of tree architecture and estimation of tree height and volume ...

Evidence of improved inventory control [PDF]

open access: yes
Inventory data applied to a standard partial stock-adjustment model demonstrate that inventory control, defined by desired marginal inventory-sales ratios and speeds of adjustment, improved in the last decade or so, particularly in the manufacturing ...

Internal Temperature Evolution Metrology and Analytics in Li‐Ion Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the non‐linear evolution of internal temperatures across diverse operating conditions, highlighting the disparities between internal and external measurements and the resulting thermal asymmetries. The coupled thermo‐electrochemical modeling framework provides a comprehensive analysis of various heat generation modes, examining ...

Natural vegetation inventory [PDF]

open access: yes
Unique characteristics of ERTS imagery can be used to inventory natural vegetation. While satellite images can seldom be interpreted and identified directly in terms of vegetation types, such types can be inferred by interpretation of physical terrain ...
