Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

The Diagonalizable Nonnegative Inverse Eigenvalue Problem

open access: yesSpecial Matrices, 2018
In this articlewe provide some lists of real numberswhich can be realized as the spectra of nonnegative diagonalizable matrices but which are not the spectra of nonnegative symmetric matrices.

Source Reconstruction as an Inverse Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Inverse Problem techniques offer powerful tools which deal naturally with marginal data and asymmetric or strongly smoothing kernels, in cases where parameter-fitting methods may be used only with some caution. Although they are typically subject to some

Continued fraction solution of Krein's inverse problem

open access: yes, 2011
The spectral data of a vibrating string are encoded in its so-called characteristic function. We consider the problem of recovering the distribution of mass along the string from its characteristic function.

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...

An inverse problem for Helmholtz's equation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1987
The refraction coefficient in Helmholtz's equation is found from the knowledge of a family of the solutions to this equation on two lines.

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Stability of solutions for some inverse problems

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
In this article we establish three stability results for some inverse problems. More precisely we consider the following boundary value problem: $Delta u + lambda u + mu = 0$ in $Omega$, $u = 0$ on $partialOmega$, where $lambda$ and $mu$ are real ...

Circular‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors with a Chiral Nanopatterned Electrode Inverse‐Designed by Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Row stochastic inverse eigenvalue problem

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2011
In this paper, we give sufficient conditions or realizability criteria for the existence of a row stochastic matrix with a given spectrum Λ = {λ1, ..., λn} = Λ1 ∪ ⋯ ∪ Λm ∪ Λm+1, m > 0; where (pk ...
