THE HOMOTOPY THEORY OF INVERSE SEMIGROUPS
International Journal of Algebra and Computation, 2002We show that abstract homotopy theory can be used to define a suitable notion of homotopy equivalence for inverse semigroups. As an application of our theory, we prove a theorem for inverse semigroup homomorphisms which is the exact counterpart of the well-known result in topology which states that every continuous function can be factorized into a ...

Theory of lasers without inversion
Physical Review A, 1990We here present the theory of lasing without inversion for systems with a split upper laser level. We show that the effect of amplification without inversion may be realized for at least two different situations. In the first situation, the effect is due to the asymmetry of radiative characteristics of quasidegenerate transitions.

Inverse Scale Space Theory for Inverse Problems
2001In this paper we derive scale space methods for inverse problems which satisfy the fundamental axioms of fidelity and causality and we provide numerical illustrations of the use of such methods in deblurring. These scale space methods are asymptotic formulations of the Tikhonov-Morozov regularization method.

Inverse programming: Theory and examples
Mathematical Programming, 1973In this paper some simple ideas about ordered sets and inverse functions are developed into a theory of inverse pairs of optimization problems. This relationship is shown to permit the use of root-finding methods to find a solution for one problem through a sequence of solutions to the other.
