Function Art: Linking Mathematics, Technology, and Visual Arts

open access: yesSchool Science and Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigated students' understanding of mathematical functions and strategies to create artwork using GeoGebra. It was framed by the principles of constructionism and examined how students use functions in creating artworks. We gathered data from students' artworks using the Algebra view and the Construction Protocol in the GeoGebra

A Real-Time Marker-Based Visual Sensor Based on a FPGA and a Soft Core Processor

open access: yesSensors, 2016
This paper introduces a real-time marker-based visual sensor architecture for mobile robot localization and navigation. A hardware acceleration architecture for post video processing system was implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA).

Forced Response Analysis of Dynamic Systems With Inertia Nonlinearity by Applying the Multiharmonic Balance Method

open access: yesPAMM, Volume 26, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Nonlinear mechanical vibrations under harmonic forcing can be well approximated by Fourier series. For a finite number of harmonics, the error is minimized over one period of vibration. This technique, known as multiharmonic balance method (MHBM), is today widely used in academics as well as industrial applications, e.g., for friction‐damped ...

Equiconvergence of expansions in root functions of a differential operator and in a trigonometric Fourier series

open access: yesСовременная математика: Фундаментальные направления
We consider a non-self-adjoint ordinary differential operator defined on a finite interval by an \( n \)th-order linear differential expression with a nonzero coefficient of the \( (n-1) \)th derivative and two-point Birkhoff regular boundary conditions.

Inverse‐Designed On‐Chip Orbital Angular Momentum Mode Converter for Optical Convolution Acceleration

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 3, 12 February 2026.
This work proposes OAM‐encoded CNN based on cascaded on‐chip OAM converters and multiplexers. The footprint of inverse‐designed converters is 5 μm × 4 μm and the maximum conversion efficiency of OAM reaches 88%. The OAM‐encoded optical CNN was built using this device, achieving 98.0% accuracy on MNIST and 86.1% accuracy on Fashion‐MNIST classification.

Definition and Computation of Tensor‐Based Generalized Function Composition

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 33, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Functions are fundamental to mathematics as they offer a structured and analytical framework to express relations between variables. While scalar and matrix‐based functions are well‐established, higher‐order tensor‐based functions have not been as extensively explored.

Optimizing Instruction to Reduce Element Interactivity in Fraction Multiplication: Recommendations From Cognitive Load Theory

open access: yesApplied Cognitive Psychology, Volume 40, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examined the effectiveness of two instructional methods for teaching fraction multiplication within the framework of cognitive load theory. Ninety‐three Year 4 students from South East Asian country were randomly assigned to either the High Element‐Interactivity Method (HEIM) or the Low Element‐Interactivity Method (LEIM).

Charging a quantum battery from the Bloch Sphere

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, Volume 538, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study uncovers the origin of the ergotropy stockpiled during the charging of a quantum battery, as well as the genesis of the battery capacity. It is found that both coherences and population inversion can meaningfully contribute, and the balance between these two mechanisms is intimately related to the initial state of the charger as well as the ...

Exact, time‐dependent analytical equations for spiral trajectories and matching gradient and density‐correction waveforms

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 95, Issue 1, Page 400-410, January 2026.
Abstract Purpose To analytically define a spiral waveform and trajectory that match the constraints of gradient frequency, slew rate, and amplitude. Theory and Methods Piecewise analytical solutions for gradient waveforms under the desired constraints are derived using the circle of an involute rather than an Archimedean spiral.
