Retrieval of Suspended Sediment Concentration from Bathymetric Bias of Airborne LiDAR

open access: yesSensors, 2022
In addition to depth measurements, airborne LiDAR bathymetry (ALB) has shown usefulness in suspended sediment concentration (SSC) inversion. However, SSC retrieval using ALB based on waveform decomposition or near-water-surface penetration by green ...

Spin-singlet superconductivity with a full gap in locally non-centrosymmetric SrPtAs

open access: yes, 2014
We report $^{195}$Pt-NMR and $^{75}$As-NQR measurements for the locally non-centrosymmetric superconductor SrPtAs where the As-Pt layer breaks inversion symmetry while globally the compound is centrosymmetric.

Global crustal thickness from neural network inversion of surface wave data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present a neural network approach to invert surface wave data for a global model of crustal thickness with corresponding uncertainties. We model the a posteriori probability distribution of Moho depth as a mixture of Gaussians and let the various ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Depth inversion with a 3D structure influences brightness perception.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Whether or not depth perception influences brightness and/or lightness perception has been repeatedly discussed, and some studies have emphasized its importance. In addition, a small number of studies have empirically tested and shown the effect of depth

Binocular Disparity Magnitude Affects Perceived Depth Magnitude despite Inversion of Depth Order

open access: yesPerception, 2011
The hollow-face illusion involves a misperception of depth order: our perception follows our top–down knowledge that faces are convex, even though bottom–up depth information reflects the actual concave surface structure. While pictorial cues can be ambiguous, stereopsis should unambiguously indicate the actual depth order.

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

GNSS-R Snow Depth Inversion Study Based on SNR-SVR

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The global navigation satellite system reflectometry (GNSS-R) technology has shown significant potential in retrieving snow depth using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) data.

Evidence for postseismic deformation of the lower crust following the 2004 Mw6.0 Parkfield earthquake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Previous studies have shown that postseismic relaxation following the 2004 Mw6.0 Parkfield, CA, earthquake is dominated by afterslip. However, we show that some fraction of the afterslip inferred from kinematic inversion to have occurred immediately ...

Superconducting thin rings with finite penetration depth

open access: yes, 2003
Recently Babaei Brojeny and Clem [Phys. Rev. B 68, 174514 (2003)] considered superconducting thin-film rings in perpendicular magnetic fields in the ideal Meissner state with negligibly small magnetic penetration depth and presented useful analytical ...
