The Two-Body Inversion Effect

Psychological Science, 2017
How does one perceive groups of people? It is known that functionally interacting objects (e.g., a glass and a pitcher tilted as if pouring water into it) are perceptually grouped. Here, we showed that processing of multiple human bodies is also influenced by their relative positioning.

On the effect of mirroring in inverse source

Imaging and Applied Optics 2016, 2016
In this paper the inverse source problem in presence of a reflecting plane is dealt with for a two-dimensional configuration and bounded rectilinear strip sources. The case of orthogonal (to a perfect electric conductor plane) source is considered.

Observation of the Inverse Doppler Effect

Science, 2003
We report experimental observation of an inverse Doppler shift, in which the frequency of a wave is increased on reflection from a receding boundary. This counterintuitive effect has been produced by reflecting a wave from a moving discontinuity in an electrical transmission line.

Inverse optoacoustic effect

Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1985
If a spectrophone containing an infrared active gas is placed near a cold surface and the path between the two is interrupted, the periodic flow of radiation from the spectrophone causes a sound wave to be produced. Experiments were done with a 3.4- × 1.7-cm diam acoustic cell that was fitted with thallium bromoiodide windows.

Inverse Pinch Effect

The Physics of Fluids, 1958
In the conventional pinch effect an ionized gas is enclosed by a conducting cylinder, and a sufficiently large current passing through the gas and returning along the inner wall of the cylinder produces a magnetic field which compresses the gas into an axial filament. A device is described which produces an inverse pinch effect.

The inverse frequency effect

International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, 2023
Abstract Rare syntactic constructions show an especially strong tendency to be repeated, but some rare constructions exhibit this tendency much more strongly than others. The reasons for this variation are not well understood.

Inverse skin effect

Technical Physics Letters, 2004
Analytical expressions describing the distribution of the magnetic field and the current density in a cylindrical conductor are obtained in the case of rapid oscillatory variation of the external field. When the field decreases, the system features the inverse skin effect, whereby the current density is maximum in the central part of the conductor.

Effect of geometrical frustration on inverse freezing

Physical Review E, 2016
The interplay between geometrical frustration (GF) and inverse freezing (IF) is studied within a cluster approach. The model considers first-neighbor (J_{1}) and second-neighbor (J_{2}) intracluster antiferromagnetic interactions between Ising spins on a checkerboard lattice and long-range disordered couplings (J) among clusters.

The Effects of Scene Inversion on Change Blindness

The Journal of General Psychology, 2000
In two experiments, participants searched for a difference between two views of a scene. In Experiment 1, the authors extended the change-blindness findings from previous work by R. A. Rensink, J. K. O'Regan, and J. J. Clark (1997), which used an experimenter-induced global transient, to a less artificial situation in which participants searched for a ...

The Effect of Velocity Inversions on H/V

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2009
We analyzed the phenomenology of microtremor H/V curves under inversions in the shear-wave velocity (Vs) profile in the subsoil. Under no Vs inversion the spectral signature of the H/V peaks is found to be ‘eye-shaped’ with the horizontal components higher than the vertical. Conversely, under negative velocity gradients, numerous of differences emerge.
