Inversion of Structural Geology Data for Fold Geometry [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2018
AbstractRecent developments in structural modeling techniques have dramatically increased the capability to incorporate fold‐related data into the modeling workflow. However, these techniques are lacking a mathematical framework for properly addressing structural uncertainties. Previous studies investigating structural uncertainties have focused on the

Blockworlds 0.1.0: a demonstration of anti-aliased geophysics for probabilistic inversions of implicit and kinematic geological models [PDF]

open access: goldGeoscientific Model Development, 2022
Parametric geological models such as implicit or kinematic models provide low-dimensional, interpretable representations of 3-D geological structures. Combining these models with geophysical data in a probabilistic joint inversion framework provides an ...

New perspectives on Solid Earth Geology from Seismic Texture to Cooperative Inversion [PDF]

open access: goldScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractSeismic and electromagnetic methods are fundamental to Solid Earth research and subsurface exploration. Acquisition cost reduction is making dense 3D application of these methods accessible to a broad range of geo-scientists. However, the challenge of extracting geological meaning remains.

Integrated interpretation of geology and geophysics, using inversions, to predict geology under cover [PDF]

open access: bronzeASEG Extended Abstracts, 2010
Predictive 3D geological models of the subsurface can be developed using a range of available tools. Each tool is suited to slightly different problems and datasets. The method described here, using the UBC-GIF inversions algorithms, allows rapid development of models using an objective, automated procedure.

Seismic imaging and recognition technology of medium and shallow channel sand body [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2022
The fine characterization of channel sand body is a complex system engineering. The longitudinal superposition relationship of channel is complex, the sandstone thickness is thin, and the lateral changes of lithology and physical properties are obvious ...

Into the Noddyverse: a massive data store of 3D geological models for machine learning and inversion applications [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Science Data, 2022
Unlike some other well-known challenges such as facial recognition, where machine learning and inversion algorithms are widely developed, the geosciences suffer from a lack of large, labelled data sets that can be used to validate or train robust machine

Application of fine structure interpretation and reservoir prediction technology in Beier Sag [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
After years of exploration in Beier Sag, the exploration is becoming more and more difficult. Beier Sag is characterized by many faults and complex structures.

Automatic Horizon Picking Using Multiple Seismic Attributes and Markov Decision Process

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Picking the reflection horizon is an important step in velocity inversion and seismic interpretation. Manual picking is time-consuming and no longer suitable for current large-scale seismic data processing.

Stochastic inversion for scaling geology [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1990
SUMMARY We have examined acoustic, density resistivity, gamma-ray and neutron logs from a number of boreholes in both sedimentary and igneous sequences. We show that the power spectra of these geophysical variables obey a scaling law, that is, the power spectra are proportional to some power of the frequency.

Probabilistic approach to Gramian inversion of multiphysics data

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
We consider a probabilistic approach to the joint inversion of multiphysics data based on Gramian constraints. The multiphysics geophysical survey represents the most effective technique for geophysical exploration because different physical data reflect
