Focusing inversion techniques applied to electrical resistance tomography in an experimental tank [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We present an algorithm for focusing inversion of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) data. ERT is a typical example of ill-posed problem. Regularization is the most common way to face this kind of problems; it basically consists in using a priori information about targets to reduce the ambiguity and the instability of the solution.

From Cosmic Explosions to Terrestrial Fires?: A Reply [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Deschamps and Mottez (hereafter DM) argue that the Gauss-Matuyama terrestrial magnetic field reversal may have left a vanishing main dipole moment to the field for a time of order 10,000 years. They say this may have allowed an enhanced cosmic ray flux, boosting the effect we proposed in Melott and Thomas (2019).

Application of frequency division inversion in the prediction of heterogeneous natural gas hydrates reservoirs in the Shenhu Area, South China Sea

open access: yesChina Geology, 2022
: Drilling results suggest that the thickness of natural gas hydrates (NGHs) in the Shenhu Area, South China Sea (SCS) are spatially heterogenous, making it difficult to accurately assess the NGHs resources in this area.

A comprehensive study on in situ stress field characteristics and changes in rock mechanical properties in deep mines in northeastern Yunnan, China

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper studies the distribution characteristics of the current in situ stress field in northeast Yunnan Province by using multisource stress data, including in situ stress measurements, focal mechanism solutions, and borehole damage information, and comprehensively determines the in situ stress magnitude and direction in the mining area.

Hotspots, trends, and regional focus on oil or gas exploration: A bibliometric comparative study

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper explores the research trends in global oil and gas exploration through the bibliometric analysis of 3460 articles collected from the Web of Science database on oil and gas exploration published from 2013 to 2023. The research hotspots, objects, regional distribution, methods, and evaluation methods of oil and gas exploration are analyzed and

GEOLOGY OF PASSION: G.H.’S RETURN TO THE CAVE

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Literatura Comparada, 2023
The Passion according to G.H. is one of the texts most commented on by specialized critics. Since it is a classic text, that is, a book that can be read by each new generation from new entries, the present work attempts a reading of Clarice Lispector’s ...

Gravity inversion of deep-crust and mantle interfaces in the Three Gorges area

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2012
To better understand the heterogeneity of deep-crust and mantle interfaces in the region of the Three Gorges, China, we used the Parker-Oldenburg iterative inversion method to invert existing Bouguer gravity data from the Three Gorges area (1 : 500000 ...

Inversion methodology for determination of near-surface geology from seismic refraction amplitudes [PDF]

open access: yesASEG Extended Abstracts, 2012
The amplitude of a seismic refraction event is determined by the properties of rocks through which the seismic waves travel, the amplitude of the shot and the offset at which the refraction is recorded. A surface-consistent, non-linear inversion scheme, which uses the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, has been developed which aims to extract near-surface ...

Microscopic time‐dependent mechanical behavior of shale derived from nanoindentation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study conducted grid nanoindentation creep tests to systematically analyze the microscopic creep behaviors of shale. Based on the analysis of creep strain rate sensitivity, the primary mechanism of microscopic creep in shale was found to be the extension and closure of microcracks.
