Impact of uncertain geology in constrained geophysical inversion [PDF]
The integration of geological modelling, petrophysics and geophysics in a single inversion scheme is a complex and powerful strategy for solving challenges faced in geoscientific resource explorati...

Inversion of Structural Geology Data for Fold Geometry [PDF]
AbstractRecent developments in structural modeling techniques have dramatically increased the capability to incorporate fold‐related data into the modeling workflow. However, these techniques are lacking a mathematical framework for properly addressing structural uncertainties. Previous studies investigating structural uncertainties have focused on the

Stochastic inversion for scaling geology [PDF]
SUMMARY We have examined acoustic, density resistivity, gamma-ray and neutron logs from a number of boreholes in both sedimentary and igneous sequences. We show that the power spectra of these geophysical variables obey a scaling law, that is, the power spectra are proportional to some power of the frequency.

Inversion in geology by interactive evolutionary computation [PDF]
We present the first step in the development of a system that would allow geological models to evolve backwards in time. The method of interactive evolutionary computation provides for the inclusion of geological knowledge and expertise in a rigorous mathematical inversion scheme, by simply asking an expert user to visually evaluate different ...

A Physics-Based Neural-Network Way to Perform Seismic Full Waveform Inversion
Seismic full waveform inversion is a common technique that is used in the investigation of subsurface geology. Its classic implementation involves forward modeling of seismic wavefield based on a certain type of wave equation, which reflects the physics ...

Potential field power spectrum inversion for scaling geology
We propose a method for inverting the power spectrum of gravity and magnetic data. The method is demonstrated on aeromagnetic and borewell data from the German Continental Deep Drilling Project (KTB). Density and susceptibility distributions in the Earth's crust exhibit scaling behavior with power spectra proportional to ƒ−β, where f is the wavenumber ...

Towards an integrated inversion of geoscientific data: What price of geology?
Abstract The inversion of multiple geoscientific datasets to define structures in hard rock terrains has for the most part been limited to geophysical methods supported by rock property constraints. In this paper we expand the range of constraints available to geological modellers by defining a series of misfit functions that are used to define the ...

Automatic Horizon Picking Using Multiple Seismic Attributes and Markov Decision Process
Picking the reflection horizon is an important step in velocity inversion and seismic interpretation. Manual picking is time-consuming and no longer suitable for current large-scale seismic data processing.

Probabilistic approach to Gramian inversion of multiphysics data
We consider a probabilistic approach to the joint inversion of multiphysics data based on Gramian constraints. The multiphysics geophysical survey represents the most effective technique for geophysical exploration because different physical data reflect
